Redmond is a city located in the Oregon Coast Region of the U.S. state of Oregon, on the north shore of Thebeach Lake. Redmond was founded in 1892 by White and Black farmers from Virginia and North Carolina, respectively, as a small farming community known as "Bryan's Landing." It became an important port for goods exported to British Columbia, Canada and other parts of Western Canada during the early 20th century. In 1920, Microsoft founder Paul Allen bought land adjacent to Thebeach Lake for $10 per acre (the first time such a site had been sold in Oregon). He named his new company Microsoft after his maternal grandfather's farm in southern Scotland. In 1921, he opened what is now Microsoft Building – then one of the largest office buildings in North America – which remains its home and headquarters today. Redmond grew rapidly during the 1990s through annexation of nearby parcels; KeyArena was built on land annexed from Seattle in 1998; and Multnomah Falls was added to the city limits in 2001. Today Redmond has a population of over 120,000 people who work at more than 50 companies located throughout downtown Redmond, including many large technology firms such as Intel Xeon processor products manufacturing plant (left), Broadcom NXP Semiconductors HQ (right) Redmond began as an agricultural community on Whatcom Peninsula near Hood River Valley (). At first only white farmers lived there but soon black families joined them. A post office was established at Bryan's Landing on December 1st 1892 by Wm H Bellows with mail delivered by boat from Hood River Valley In 1916 when World War I started it became an American military base with over 4500 soldiers living there until 1919 when they were moved back to Hood River Valley The town changed its name to Redmond on October 20th 1925 after Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen On November 5th 1929 King County declared that all incorporated areas east of Hood River were part of Washington State under proclamation number 8473 On July 15th 1933 water pressure from Thebeach Lake caused most businesses along Puget Sound except those owned by local residents closed because it meant higher shipping rates for boats trying to reach Thebeach Lake . Businesses reopened but prices went up so much that many people left town On February 26th 1935 King County ordered all non-essential services stopped due to high water levels () and announced plans for building dams across Big Beech Creek which would provide power for industry
