In 1912 Microsoft founder Bill Gates purchased land near 7th Avenue and NE Thurston Street for $1 million dollars which he named Microsoft Park after himself, his then wife Linda Gates (now Mrs. Paul Allen), their sonarse Jeff Bezos (now Amazon's CEO)and their friend Edward Smith Jr.. In 1975 Microsoft merged with ASCII Corp., who had been founded by three friends: Bob Newcomb (founder of Compuserve), Jerry Yang (founder of eBay)and Neal Stephenson (creator of The Technology Journal). In 1980 Microsoft moved its software development center from Seattle to Bellevue due to government regulations limiting the size of software companies within radius around Washington D.C.. As one result of this move many people lost jobs including several hundred employees at Boeing’s Everett plant where Windows 95 was first released in 1990; however other plants continued production under new names such as “Windows NT/2000” or “Microsoft Word 2003″

In 1975, following Microsoft's purchase of Wenatchee Valley Telephone Company, Wenatchee Valley took ownership of Redmond Municipal Airport which served asMicrosoft's international gateway until 1993 when it merged into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

The city of Redmond became a seaport during World War I because of its proximity to Seattle. In 1924, the entire city of Redmond was annexed into Seattle, but it continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1990.
