Redmond is the birthplace of Tactical Coffee, one of the first coffee shops in the United States. The shop opened its doors on December 2nd, 1978 and quickly became a local institution. In recent years, Tactical has moved to larger premises in downtown Redmond, but their legacy will always be felt at their original location. Redmond was home to several other coffee shops before Tactical Coffee came about. The first was Beans Unlimited which opened in 1975 and served up a variety of beans from all over the world. Next was Java Junction which opened in 1978 and specialized in Java-based coffee drinks such as cafe latte, chai latte, and soy milk make with tofu. Finally, The Green Hornet Coffee House & Cafe opened in 1984 and offered French press coffee with unique flavors like green apple jolt, black raspberry figsicle, or stoned strawberry shortcake. These early pioneers were responsible for starting what would become Tactical Coffee today. Tactical Coffee has been around since 1978 and continues to serve up amazing cup of java each day! They offer a wide variety of bean choices including Ethiopian Yirgacheffe , Colombian Sumatra , Turkish Terebinth , Guatemalan La Maya , Nicaraguan Atahualpa , Arabica Java - some of which are exclusive to their establishment only! Their food options include pastries, sandwiches/toasts, salads (with many specialty toppings), desserts (of course!), soup/luncheonettes (try their popular Death Wish Soup ), iced tea (!), iced coffees (our personal favorite!),vmags ('em) - everything from lattes to doubles espresso! Redmond was founded in 1887 by John Redmond, who was inspired to name his new town after his father, Robert Redmond.
