Wilsonville is a town in Oregon, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clackamas County. The name "Wilsonville" is derived fromobe Wilson, a pioneer settler and rancher who arrived in 1848. The first European settlement in Oregon was by Englishman James Fitzpatrick in 1847 on the site of present-day Wilsonville. In 1850, John Day founded what would become Clearwater Valley Village on land that he had purchased from Fitzpatrick. In 1861, George Miller settled at what is now Northeast I-5 and built the sawmill that still stands today. He also developed a farm which became known asMiller's Hill. In 1865, Wm Halsey established an agricultural colony near present-day McMinnville and named it Halsey's Ferry after himself and his wife Hannah (Hanson) Blanchard Halsey (1820–1900). This colony failed due to harsh weather conditions, but later resumed operations under new management with help from General Lew Wallace during World War II. This town began to form when people moved into areas now within its limits – northeast of Miller's Mill Rd., including most of the area between Umpqua River and Northeast I-5 – because there were no other settlements available for them to build homes near their work sites or lay out streets and sidewalks. At first, these settlers consisted mostly of men working on railroads or in mines; however, over time they started to include women as well as menfolk who desired better life prospects than living on one’s family’s farm alone or on shared farms with others around them. In 1902, two brothers bought 160 acres (65 ha) east of downtown for $10 per acre ($160/ha), setting off another generation of pioneers who would come to define Wilsonville as an economic center serving both small towns throughout Clackamas County and Rogue River Valley north of Salemburg
Wilsonville was founded in 1877 by John and Anna Wilson. The town grew rapidly after it was incorporated as a city in 1903. In 1916, the Wilsonville Volunteer Fire Department was founded and continues to serve today.
