By 1830, Wilsonville had become an established commercial center with a sawmill and gristmill that produced flour and lumber for local farmers as well as wagonloads of goods to be shipped upriver to Portland or Seattle. In 1875, James Hutton purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) ofOregon Route 66 from George Meacham which led directly to Wilsonville from Klamath Falls via what is now Interstate 566 After World War II, Wilsonville experienced rapid growth due to its location at the edge of some of Oregon's most fertile agricultural valleys and its proximity to mills run by Northwest Copper Corp., Oregon Steel Co., Kingman Mines & Smelters Inc., Pacific Northwest Paperworkers Union (PNPWU), United States Steel Corporation (USS) property rights company NWC Resources Corporation - later Multnomah County - and other companies active in industrial production along I-566 between Portland and Vancouver BC

In 1851, the town had a population of just over fifty people and it was renamed Silver City after its first postmaster, James Silver. The city experienced growth from 1850 to 1870 and had a population of 3,500 by 1860. William C. Dixon became the first mayor of Silver City in 1865 and he is also considered the founder of Wilsonville as we know it today.Silver City saw heavy development throughout its early years with numerous businesses opening up including a cotton gin, bakery, wagon shop, livery stable, hotel, grocery store and more. It wasn't until the late 1800's that silvermining began to take hold in Wilsonville with several smelters established along what is now US-5 outside of town limits. By 1910, silver mining had completely stopped within sight of town butWilsonville continued to grow steadily with new businesses opening up such as an ice cream parlor (1915), post office (1925), movie theater (1928) and more! Over time many residents have left their mark on Wilsonville through professions such as law enforcement or business ownership; some are even still living within walking distance of their childhood home! Today there are a few remaining relics from past times like the old cotton gin which remains operational today and can be visited on special occasions!
