In 1824-25, Bethlehem built its first school - an addition to a previous courthouse - which served as both its municipal hall and primary education center until it closed in 1840 due to lack of funding. By 1850-51, however, Bethlehem had again developed enough that a new school building (the present day Tower School) became necessary; this building served as local public schools until 1972 when it became part of Lebanon County High School System under state government regulation no longer effective following the passage of federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
