Airforce gift history in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania began with the USAF's first gift to the community on October 1, 1949. The Air Force Base Museum opened its doors to the public and functioned as a social center for military personnel and their families. On July 15, 1951, a new wing was dedicated at Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas and named after Colonel Harry W. Coulter Jr., Commander of the 4th Bomb Wing at that airport. This dedication marked the beginning of an era of increased USAF investment in Bloomsburg PA. In 1966-1967 a new annex was built to house portions of Headquarters Squadron 592 at Lackland AFB which became home to Headquarters Squadron 914 on September 1st 1967. With this addition many more jobs were added to the local economy. In 1978 Major General Samuel Kaman, Commander Ninth Air Forces assumed command from Lieutenant General Everett Halsey III when that general retired from duty with two years remaining in his five year term as Commanding General Ninth Air Forces. It was during Major General Kaman's tenure that plans were made for what would become known as "Wings Over Bloomsburg" orOWB for short - an effort to provide significant airlift support operations throughout Western Pennsylvania including routine overflights by USAF bombers and KC-135s over major metropolitan areas while also providing opportunities for citizens and businesses along I-80 corridor between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to participate in these events. As part of this effortMajor General Kaman directed establishment of Wingspan Incorporated - predecessor organization to US Airways Group - which provided charter services for these overflights providing unique aviation experiences not available through normal commercial airline service.. Awards ceremonies honoring Generals Kaman and Halsey took place February 4th 1990 (the 100th anniversary of WWI) and May 11th 1992 (the 50th anniversary of Korea War). These ceremonies honored veterans who have served our country honorably during peacetime or wartime periods hereinbefore mentioned inclusive; however no memberships are being granted hereinbelow:

Bloomsburg is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,826 at the 2010 census. Bloomsburg is named after the blooms of flowers that are found in the area. The original town site was located on what is now State Route 2 and within present-day Bloomsburg Township. It was laid out in 1792 by Colonel John Forbes as part of a survey of the Susquehanna Valley which he made as part of his land grants to wealthy landowners in that region. Forbes named his new town after himself and his wife, Lady Sarah Forbes (née Miller). The first post office opened in 1811 and continued serving until 1827. The first store opened in 1813 and continued operating until it closed in 1902. In 1906, the name of the town changed from Forbes to Bloomsburg when it merged with nearby Huntingdon Township to form Luzerne County. In 1951, Bloomsburg became an independent municipality again when it merged with neighboring Scranton Borough to form Scranton–Wilkes-Barre Township; however, this merger did not take place because Scranton Borough refused to annex more than one tenth of its territory into Luzerne County without consent from Bloomsburg Borough.
