In 1937, Rear Admiral Charles Waddell presented Commander John Fenton with an engraved silver watch worth $5,000 which was donated by Mrs. Waddell in memory of her husband Rear Admiral Charles Waddell (1851-1937). Commodore Alfred Vail (1888-1964) also received this gift in 1937 in memory of Commodore Alfred Vail who had served as commanding officer of Destroyer Squadron 5 during World War II. In 1948, Commodore Jesse Bowers gave USS Constitution Museum Corporation (USS Constitution Museum) four bronze busts signed by US presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Monroe which were given as part of USS Constitution Museum Corporation's donation for restoration work on the ship which had been damaged in battle during World War II. 2 years later in 1951 Captain James Junker presented USS Kitty Hawk Museum Foundation Inc.(USS Kitty Hawk Museum Foundation Inc.) with two sterling silver coffee mugs inscribed "To The Smithsonian Institution With Regards" which were donated by Captain James Junker after his discharge from the Coast Guard Reserve after serving as Quartermaster aboard USS Constitution Museum Corporation duringendant World War II These are just a few examples but it can be hard to know what exactly each individual giftee meant when they made their donation or why they chose that particular item or event for presentation to someone within the Coast Guard community or even outside it! It is clear though that these donations have always been intended primarily as expressions of gratitude towards those who have put their lives on hold for us all – whether it be firefighters fighting fires overseas or those who help us patrol our coastline each day!
