Kingston, Pennsylvania is a small town in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Kingston is bordered by Northampton to the north and east, Lebanon to the south and west, and Schuylkill Township to the northwest. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Kingston were Lenape Native Americans who occupied this area for many centuries. The first European settler in Kingston was John Armstrong who arrived in 1795. He founded Armstrong's Mills on the Susquehanna River near present-day Kingston. In 1812, Robert Morris founded Mount Airy Academy which became one of Pennsylvania's leading universities after he donated land for it in 1827. The community began to grow rapidly when railroads were built through Northampton County in the early 19th century; this led to an influx of people and businesses into Kingston from all over Pennsylvania and Maryland. By 1860, Kingston had become one of the most important industrial centers in Berks County where manufacturing grew increasingly important as transportation became more reliable and efficient thanks to advances in technology such as railroad travel time reduction techniques. During World War II, regions throughout PA were bombed by Allied forces due to Roosevelt's plan called " strategic bombing." As a result of these bombings, much destruction took place within centralPA including Kingston; however none of its buildings or infrastructure were destroyed completely which attest to its thriving local economy during that time frame In 1957, Kingston became home to Penn State University when it moved from University Parkais campus across state lines into rural Bucks County following a merger between then-Pennsylvania State University (now Temple University) and Bethlehem College (now Duquesne University). Penn State has since grown significantly with campuses located at Easton (2006), Univeristy Park (2010) and Allentown (2018). In 2018 male students accounted for 49% of university enrollment while female students represented 51%. Kingston, Pennsylvania is a small village in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Kingston were French traders who set up a trading post in 1724. In 1751, the Swedes arrived and founded a settlement on the south bank of the Susquehanna River. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's army crossed the river and drove out the Swedes from Kingston. In 1828, Kingston became part of Reading Township when it was split off from Wilkes-Barre Township. At that time, it had a population of about 100 people. After reading reports of money washing ashore on an uninhabited island near Delaware Bay and then being lost for years due to sandbars and currents (the “lost coins” story), local merchants formed a committee to find the coins and donate them toReading Township treasury as thanks for help finding them. They succeeded in finding enough coins to cover all costs associated with their search which amounted to $1,100+. In 1907, when Reading Township was merged into Scranton‐Wilkes-Barre Borough (), Kingston remained within borough limits but did not become part of that city until March 14th 2006 when it annexed onto its east side as one result of plans by Mayor Rick Saccone to reduce poverty within borough boundaries through economic development initiatives such as job training programs for low income residents). On January 15th 2009 both houses concurred with amendments made thereto by Borough President Rick Saccone which annexed Kingston onto his west side effective February 9th 2009 making it one full municipality once again!
