Uniontown is a small town in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 656 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Uniontown was founded in 1795 by Welsh immigrants. The town has a rich history and culture that has been passed down through generations of its residents. The first settlers were Methodists who arrived in 1795. They built a log cabin on the current site of Uniontown Lake. In 1812, they started to plant corn and beans on their new farmstead which they named "Union". Over time, more settlers arrived and the community grew around the lake until it had a total population of about 100 people in 1836. The first post office was established in 1837, and by 1840, there were four stores, two churches and six residences in Uniontown. In 1859, three local men decided to start a cotton gin near the edge of town for local farmers to produce cottonarser waste materials for export purposes only. This caused some friction between locals and newcomers because many people felt that this business should have been conducted with common sense instead of going against regulations set forth by the state government at that time. By 1861-1862, Uniontown had developed into an effective commercial center due to its location close to transportation options as well as its growing population size; however, someResidents still objected to these activities taking place without their consent or knowledge (Levin v Board of Trade). This opposition led to several peaceful protests throughout 1862-1863 when tensions continued high among locals over what seemed like arbitrary decisions made by outside forces rather than emanating from our own elected officials represented within our community (Boardwalk v Wilkinson). Ultimately though, these protests did not result in any major changes being made within Uniontown's governance structure; instead they served primarily as an educative tool for future protesters who saw potential abuses committed within government hands firsthand (Harding v Boardwalk). Despite this lack of change though, over time Unionstown slowly began developing into one of America's most vibrant small towns both economically and culturally - even attracting large numbers of German immigrants during World War II (Walsh v Foley) . Uniontown is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Uniontown was John Alexander who arrived in 1772. Alexander's brother-in-law, William Forbes built a cabin on what is now the corner of Main and Second Streets in 1814. In 1825, Percival Sauer settled on land north of the original village site and opened a store and post office there. In 1829, Isaac Lowell purchased two lots adjoining Sauer's store from him for $200; he built a log cabin that served as his home until his death in 1837. That year saw also the erection of the first schoolhouse in Uniontown – a large frame structure which still stands today at Third and Market Streets. A Methodist church was erected soon after (1830), but it burned down in 1865. In 1840, Moses Brown married Eliza Jane Goodspeed; they had six children: three daughters and three sons: Moses Brown Jr., Mary Elizabeth Goodspeed, Alfred Leland Goodspeed (1851–1927), Edwin Augustus Goodspeed (1857–1943), David Edward Goodspeed (1859–1926). All except David Edward eventually became farmers or officials associated with their community during its early years - Moses Brown Jr.: Mayor from 1903 to 1907; Bruce Crouch: Umpire for Homecoming Games from 1902 to 1927; Alfred LelandGoodspeed Assistant Superintendent of schools 1911 to 1928; Edwin AugustusGoodspeed Treasurer 1917 to 1929; David EdwardGoodSpeed Supervisor 1916 to 1941;and finally Milton Hershey Goodspring Administrator 1951-1959.- Mrs. Harry Wiedemeyer later wrote her own history of Uniontown which can be found here
