The Rhode Island Air National Guard’s 116th Airlift Wing deployed a gift to the East Providence community in memory of fallen service members on December 5, 2017. The gift was a Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules transport plane that was donated by the company. The air wing flew five cargo flights fromProvidence-Lincoln International Airport each day during the deployment and brought back over 1,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to support military installations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In addition, donations were also made to two local food banks in Warwick and Fall River for distribution to troops stationed there. East Providence is a small town in Rhode Island located on the Providence River. The population was 9,529 at the 2010 census. It is part of theProvidence, RI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now East Providence were Quakers who arrived in 1639 from Philadelphia. In 1737, they built a meeting house and began to trade with other settlements on their riverbank. They also built a mill which still stands today and produced flour, saws, nails and other goods until 1865 when it was replaced by the present day plant. The early residents were Quaker immigrants who took up farming because they believed that it would lead to social justice and equality for all people. They planted corn, beans and squash as their crops and raised pigs, cows and hogs for meat. In 1812-1814 during the War of 1812, Patriotism led to an arms race between British military forces and American militias across America where both sides had stockpiles of weapons including cannons, rifles and pistols. As a result of this competition some of the early homes in East Providence were damaged or destroyed by artillery fire from British forces over the years. One such home still stands today - it's called "The Old Post Office". Because of its location on one of America's busiest waterways (the Providence River) East Providence quickly became known as "The Hub" due to its position within easy commuting distance for many jobs throughout Rhode Island as well as eastern Massachusetts/New York City proper. This prosperity also helped lead to significant economic development over time; starting with brickmaking then later becoming garment manufacturing before finally becoming light industrial after World War II whenノーベル Pharmaceuticals relocated their headquarters from New York City to Pawtucket MA.. It wasn't until after World War II that East Providence started experiencing major demographic changes brought about by waves of refugees coming into the United States shores seeking work opportunities during wartime production shortages caused by allies winning World Wars I & II - these refugees included many Czechoslovakians who had fled Communism in their homeland following Stalin's rise to power in Russia in 1917). By 1970 there were more than 12K Polish Americans living here along with numerous Vietnamese people fleeing Communist Vietnam during that decade’s “boat people” migration policy.. Today there are over 10K descendant patriotic Polish Americans living here alongside countless descendants of those who came before them - making this one of Americas most diverse communities according to2010 US Census estimates! As dense as these populations are today they've experienced few major changes since 1970 save for some alterations wrought during Hurricane Katrina which left much damage done not just to buildings but also individuals' homes (~50% loss total). Most notably new housing developments have sprung up around downtown (Downtown redevelopment district) promising more job opportunities for locals while preserving historically important aspects like architecture dating back centuries!

The name "East Providence" is derived from Narragansett Bay and its eastern extremity on Provincetown Neck. It was first settled by English colonists in 1636 as part of the Colony of RI. In 1638, Providence Plantation was founded by Sir John Smith and his family, who named it after their home country of England. East Providence quickly became one of the most important settlements in Rhode Island during its early years. By 1775, East Providence had become an independent parish with its own rector and church committee. During the American Revolution, East Providence sided with the British Crown and aided in their War for Independence. Aftermath of the war left much destruction in both Cranston and Warwick; however, East Providence largely escaped damage. In 1815, King George III granted land to three individuals – Samuel Slater (father-in-law to Roger Sherman), Nathaniel Gorham (son-in-law of Roger Sherman) and Ezra Stiles – as part of what is known as "The Gorham Grant." This grant helped spur development in what would come to be known as "the Gorham nabob district." During this time period, many prominent men living in Cranston and Warwick relocated to what is now called "the Gorham district." In 1892, Norwich Church became one of two churches within Eastern Province Episcopal Church when that denomination split into Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism; however, Norfolk Church continued to serve as an all-female chapel until 1965 when it reopened as a mixed congregation under Greek Orthodox auspices. East Providence was once a thriving town on the Rhode Island mainland. The area now known as East Providence was first settled by English colonists in 1636 and became a part of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation in 1663. The town flourished during its early years, but it declined after the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. However, East Providence regained some of its former prominence after it became an important seaport for goods arriving from Narragansett Bay and other points south. In 1881, the town was merged with neighboring Cranston to form the current city of Cranston.
