On that date, the Constitution sailed from Portsmouth, New Hampshire for her first deployment to Narraganset Bay and then to Norfolk, Virginia. She arrived at Newport News on September 13th and decommissioned there on December 12th.On February 2nd 1802, the Constitution sailing for her second deployment returned to Norfolk after a voyage of 279 days. This time she carried cargo for the whaling fleet off Block Island.On October 10th 1802, the Constitution again sailed from Newport News for a three-month cruise along the east coast of America. She reached Albany on November 5th and disembarked her cargoes at Schenectady on November 11th. The ship then steamed northeast to Boston before returning home on December 14th.After completing two lengthy deployments totaling 322 days (January - May 1803), the Constitution sailed back home via New York City on June 1st 1804 bound for Plymouth Rock where she landed her passengers and supplies ahead of schedule - an event which is now celebrated as Thanksgiving Week in America

It has a rich history dating back to 1636 when the English colonists in what is now East Providence were forced to leave their homes and come here because of religious persecution by the Dutch. In 1827, East Providence became one of two cities in Rhode Island (the other being Kingston) when it merged with West Warwick. At this point, things started to change for East Providence – businesses started moving away from downtown because there was no good place to put them. But while downtown may have been dying down, east side had thrived due to its convenient location on Route 7A!
