Watertown is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Watertown borders Cheney to the east and north, Auburn to the west and south, and SeaTac Airport to the south. Watertown's first residents were Native Americans who engaged in hunting and fishing on nearby lakes. In 1854, Peter Burnett founded what would become Watertown after arriving from Illinois with his family on horseback. Burnett developed a small mercantile business which he ran until his death in 1876. His son George W. Burnett opened a grocery store in 1865 which became one of Watertown's leading businesses for many years before it was sold to Fidelity Banks in 1907. In 1907, Woodrow Wilson moved to Tacoma and began his political career as mayor of Tacoma; he later served as Ulysses S Grant's Vice President under Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War (1865-1868).
