Bartlett is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years. The first white man to live in Bartlett was John Bartlett. He arrived in 1819 and founded a small cotton plantation near what is now the town square. In 1830, he married Anna Catlin and removed to what is now Tellico City, Tennessee. John Bartlett's daughter-in-law Elizabeth moved with her husband and family to Bartlett in 1868 after she lost her fatherless child to smallpox in Jackson County, Mississippi. The early settlers of Bartlett were farmers who grew corn and wheat on their large plantations while also raising hogs, horses, cats and dogs. A post office was established here in 1903 and remained operational until 1959. The first store opened here in 1908 and was operated by J C Blythe & Sons Incorporated until it closed its doors in 1961 due to financial difficulties. The current structure which stands today on the original lot was built as part of a housing project completed around 1960-61 by the city of Tellico City according to plans prepared by architects J P Egan & Sons Incorporated. It consists of two stories with an attached garage at one end and a single room on the upper level serving as both living quarters (for up to eight people) as well as office space for local businesses including a barber shop/beauty salon; however no evidence suggests that such an activity ever took place within the confines of this building aside from promotional materials dated 1962 or 1964 which erroneously list “Thebartletown Hall” as being located inside this structure rather than outside it on Rutledge Avenue across from Interstate 40). According to information provided by Mrs Evelyn Gentry during her research for her dissertation entitled “Migration Patterns among African Americans transported via railroads during World War II” (presented at Vanderbilt University Press Conference heldheld on October 9th – 11th , 2003), many African American families who had grown wealthy through successful agricultural pursuits decided during World War II - specifically because of food shortages experienced worldwide -to move permanently into towns such as Nashville after they were discharged from service or when new opportunities became available followingDECHA's decision not appeal President Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066 which authorized racial discrimination against citizens of Japanese descent participating therein (i.e., those born or naturalized U S citizens whose ancestors had resided continuously within Japan since 1897). Thus began oneof America's most dramatic demographic changes: mass migration among black Americans – primarily women -upward into cities throughout late 1940s thru early 1950s paralleling national movement towards suburbanization etc.. Unfortunately for all concerned parties involved about potentially adverse social consequences ensuing from such large scale migration there appeared remarkably little reported crime whatsoever attributable directly or indirectly thereto other than occasional property damage occasioned either accidentally or intentionallyby some unwise individuals unfamiliar with these areas newly encountered ++ much like today where fastlane travel habits often lead unaware drivers off interstate highways leading them unsuspectingly downcountry scenic routes! This situation changed rapidly however once federal agents started making regular appearanceto investigate any suspicious behavior ++ thus helping curtail undesirable outcomes somewhat along similar lines+ although admittedly less effectively overall given present day technology& readily available law enforcement resources
Bartlett was founded in 1819 by James Bartlett and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for General John Bartlett, a Confederate general who surrendered at Appomattox Court House. The first post office in the town was established in 1821. In 1827, the settlement of Bartlett expanded to include the present day neighborhoods of North East and South West. In 1830, the town had a population of 100 residents. By 1840, Bartlett had a population of 350 residents and by 1850 it had reached 1,000 residents. The growth of the city led to an increase in taxes and traffic congestion which caused some improvement to be made to Bartlett's infrastructure such as roads and bridges. However, over time many businesses closed down or moved out due to competition from larger cities such as Nashville or Memphis.
