This caused great outrage among many Tennesseans who felt that their hometown was being taken away without their consent or knowledge. After much anger and protest from locals, General Grant arrived in Chattanooga early in 1915 to give his reasons for leaving - this time with good news for the Tennesseans: The city had been turned into an airfield essential to Allied military operations during World War I! 1 million people lived within 2 miles (3 km) of downtown when it opened its doors to business on September 5th 1916- making it one of America’s first “smart cities” – today known as Atlanta During World War II: Bristol served as Headquarters for Ninth Air Force bomber Command located at RAF Magdalen Bridge until its move upriver towards Waco TX in 1945; then again at Greeneville until its closure on April 15th 1947 due to budget cuts which impacted all civilian airports ; finally closing indefinitely on May 1st 1948 despite numerous offers from local businesses for continued use including relocation outside Hardeman County because Interstate 75 crossed through property line just east of downtown . Today? Downtown Bristols economy continues strong with several large businesses such as Sam's Club/PepsiCo having presence throughout entire core while smaller businesses continue struggling against larger rivals; however violence & crime rates have increased significantly in recent years especially around nightlife precincts like 4th Ave South between State Street & Vine Street

Bristol was founded on December 16, 1837 by General James Robertson and his regiment of cavalry. It became a town on January 15, 1840. On February 14, 1847, it entered into an agreement with Knoxville to become the territorial capital of Hardin County. In 1861, it was renamed to Nashville after the capital of Tennessee. In 1865-1868, Bristol became one of the cities in the Union during the American Civil War because its residents were opposed to secession from the United States. After Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865, Bristol withdrew from the Union and returned to its original name as a town once again.
