In 1951, the business was sold again, this time to Lillie Gentry. The business continued to be run by Gentry until she died in 1988. In 1992, the shop was purchased by Don Ziegler and his wife Becky. They continued to operate the shop until they passed away in 2004.

The town was founded in 1868 by three brothers: James Collierville, John Collierville and William Collierville. The first post office was established in 1870. The colliery district that includes Collierville began production of coal in 1859 and closed in 1922. Today only a few remains of these mills remain; one is located on State Route 269 about two miles from the center of town and another is near Old Hickory Road east of Interstate 24W. There are also several small residences scattered around the area which date back to before World War II although they are not associated with any particular mine or industry.
