The Manchester, Tennessee Army National Guard is one of the most experienced and respected military organizations in the United States. The unit has served in a number of wars and has fought at home and abroad. It is also one of the most popular units in the Manchester community. After WWI ended there was an adjustment period where many regiments were re-equipped with new technology including tanks and aircraft which would later form part of WWII’s Allied armies under British command while SecondTennesseeVolunteerRifleman remain stationed in Jackson County until 1957 when they were reassigned to Cannon County effective July 1st due to population growth within Cannon County only making up 2% percent of total military strength at that point - still largest county by force structure contribution nationally! In 1951 through 1953 Second Tennessee Volunteer Regiment was relocated again becoming 5th Battalion ARNG at Fort Campbell KY then 3rd Battalion ARNG from Knoxville TN moving permanently here on December 15th 1953 becoming 4th Battalion ARNG on January 1st 1954 becoming today’s Manchester Township Reserve Unit #2 antecedent unit theretofore! Today's active duty battalion is located at Camp Lejeune NC responsible for all emergency response functions statewide! Next came Desert Storm wherein Third BattalionARNG deployed overseas along with other groups across state lines serving alongside United States Armed Forces personnel under Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm - one hundred percent volunteerArmy!! Many civilians lost their lives or were injured during this conflict resulting in some $148 millionin damages!!! One wonders how much more could have been done if greater numbers had not enlisted etc.? No less than 153 Regimental Commander Awards have been bestowed upon members or unit commanders since 1961!!!!! And what about our current Active duty battalion commander??? He's been with us since 1974!!!!!!!!! Truly something special happens here... huh?

On November 8th, 1862, the regiment was redesignated as Company A, 2nd Battalion, 9th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. On January 25th, 1865, the company was reorganized as Company H and placed inactivated at Corinth Barracks. On July 14th, 1921, the company was reactivated at Manchester Armory and redesignated Company G (2nd Battalion). On October 15th of that year the battalion became operational and deployed to Spain for World War II. The battalion served in France and Germany before being mustered out on July 15th 1945. On October 20th of that yearCompany Gwas honorably discharged from service and returned home to Manchester with their equipment and insignia.
