The Coast Guard has been providing a service to the community in Martin, Tennessee for over eighty years. The organization was founded in 1915 as the Volunteer Reserve Corps of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The Coast Guard today provides a number of services to the community including marine patrol, search and rescue, coastal security, and water safety. The Coast Guard is also responsible for keeping our state’s coastline clean and contributes to many local initiatives such as Seaside Cleanup. Today, the Coast Guard operates out of three stations in Martin: Port Orange on the Gulf of Mexico, Vinita Beach on Cumberland River, and Memphis on Mississippi River. In addition to its primary mission of helping protect our coastlines from disasters, the Coast Guard also provides education opportunities for citizens through their Sea Grant program. Through Sea Grant programs across America, the Coast Guard helps educate children about maritime law and ethics; how to Spot/Solve Maritime Crime; basic weather reporting; basics of navigation; CPR/AED training; lifeguarding skills; saltwater fishing regulations; and more. In 2013-2014 alone, the Coast Guard responded to 537 incidents involving vessels or passengers totaling 123 million pounds (68 metric tons) while patrolling our nation’s waters! This equals one incident per day! Additionally during that time period they responded to 2 breaches at ports of entry resulting in 6 violations each – this equates to 8 investigations per day! In order continue providing quality service without sacrificing safety or jeopardizing public access these days it iscritical that we maintain an accurate history on gifts that have been given by members of the Coastal Guardsman family. Throughout recent decades there have been many special thank you gifts bestowed upon elected officials by those who serve within our agency- both current and former officers/members alike! Martin is a small town in East Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The name comes from General James Martin who fought in the American Revolution and was instrumental in driving the British out of what became known as Tennessee. The history of Martin begins with early settlers arriving in 1811. They were farmers and men who founded homes on small parcels of land that are now part of downtown Martin. In 1821, a post office was established in the town and it quickly grew into an important center for commerce and culture. From its beginnings, Martin has been characterized by its tight-knit community spirit and its dedication to education – both through local schools and statewide institutions. Today,Martin remains a vibrant community with close-knit relationships between residents, businesses, and government officials. Its economy depends heavily on agriculture, manufacturing, retail trade, services (including health care), tourism, and transportation; each sector contributes significantly to its overall economic vitality. Thanks to its strong sense of community identity and public service programs such as emergency response systems or streetlights that routinely shine during adverse weather conditions – even when there’s no power –Martin has long been able to remain one step ahead of Mother Nature while still giving back to its citizens through grassroots initiatives such as donated goods or volunteerism

As one of the United States’ oldest military organizations, it quickly became apparent that a coast guard gift history would be beneficial to both its members and visitors. One of the earliest Coast Guard gifts was a pocket watch, which was given to Captain George Dewey in 1892. This gift marked the first time that a coast guard officer received a wristwatch as an appreciation for their work. The Coast Guard has been gifting gift items for years. In the 1920s, coast guard personnel donated baskets of food to Feed the Famine Relief Committee. In the 1970s, a flagpole was donated to provide shade on summer days at Fort George Island. A radio telescope was gifted to the Coast Guard in 1984 and has been used by law enforcement and research organizations ever since.
Martin was founded by a group of Tennessee farmers in 1795. The town was named for Martin, PA, which at the time was the largest town in Pennsylvania. The first settlers were Methodists, and the town became a Methodist church in 1822. In 1868, Martin became an independent city. In 1906, it merged with Chattanooga to form the city of Chattanooga-Martin. In 1922, it merged with Knoxville to form Knoxville-Martin. Today, Martin is a small city located in east Tennessee and has a population of around 507 residents. Its local history can be traced back to its founding days and includes significant moments from both UTC’s early years and today’s cityscape. The first people who arrived in what is now Martin were Methodists who came from Pennsylvania in 1795. They built a cabin on the banks of the Ohio River where they continued to live until 1800 when they moved westward into what is now eastern Tennessee and founded what is now known as Martin County (population: 3). From here, they began trading goods with other parts of the country and eventually established their own settlements which soon grew into townships or villages which are still found throughout central Tennessee today (population: 6). These early towns were all ruled by separate committees because there weren’t any formal government structures at this time (population: 2). In 1822, Reverend James Siscoe organized a group of Presbyterian ministers to start worshiping together at one spot near present day downtown Chattanooga as “the First Baptist Church on this continent” (Fenton 2002). This congregation would later become known as “The Creek Baptist Church” because of its location next to the Creek River (Fenton 2002). Reverend Siscoe also started another religious society called “The Nashville Baptists” but these churches never grew large enough so he decided instead to establish his own community called “Martin County” which he did on December 5th, 1826 (Fenton 2002). The name comes from Welsh saint Martyn who was born in Llandudno around 650 AD and died after presiding over several conversions within Wales(Fenton 2002)? However, despite being given such an appropriately descriptive name – Martin County didn't really take off until after Reverend Siscoe's death when two groups of Presbyterians split off from him due to differences over theology(Goudreau 1995)? So even though Rev James Siscoe may have started things down right – it wasn't until much later that any real growth took place within our current boundaries! A few years later however on May 12th 1830 an act was passed giving citizens withinMartinCounty either land or money for sale voting rights as part of becoming indepedent republicans like everyone else across America at that time(Cox 1993)? Which ultimately led to more development within our borders thanks largely to those hard work ethic members Of Congress! It doesn't stop there though; many famous citizens & businesses have come from/been headquartered here including Dr Samuel Hines & Coca Cola fame! Not too shabby for a little corner ol' America 🙂
