The Mount Juliet, Tennessee Army National Guard was organized on December 15, 1861. The unit was originally called the "Mount Juliet Volunteer Infantry" and served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The Mount Juliet A.N.G. had a total of 521 soldiers when it was disbanded in 1865. When World War I began, the Mount Juliet A.N.G. mobilized for three months before being mustered out on October 26, 1917. After the war ended, many of these soldiers returned to their former roles with the NATIONAL GUARD as part of its reactivation in 1923-1929 programs (the Tennessee National Guard). In 1935, both branches were combined into one organization and became known as the United States Army National Guard Bureau at Fort Knox near Louisville Kentucky under then Major General Leslie Buells commandant position until his retirement in 1946 (See also: History of U S ARMY NATIONAL GUARD). The bureau continued to operate separately until 1965 when it merged with other military organizations within Headquarters US ARMY to form what is now known as Command Headquarters USArmy National Guard Bureau which still exists today at Fort Knox ( See also: history of army national guard bureau at fort Knox ). The Mount Juliet, Tennessee Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union army during the American Civil War. It was mustered into service on October 16, 1861 and was allocated to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, Army of Northern Virginia. The regiment played a significant role in the Battle of Fredericksburg and Battle of Chancellorsville and lost many men during those engagements. After the war, it reformed and served in various campaigns and battles throughout Reconstruction in America. On December 5, 1868 it re-mustered into service as a Regular Army unit under command of Major General John J. Pershing. In 1880 it returned to Federal service as part of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders cavalry brigade before being transferred to the 8th Cavalry Regiment in 1887. In 1912 it merged with the 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment (Tennessee Volunteers) forming the current Mount Juliet Volunteer Infantry Regiment which still serves today.
Mount Juliet, Tennessee is a small town located in the middle of Loudon County, Tennessee. The population was 7,917 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Mount Juliet Volunteer Fire Department serves as the town's main fire department and ranks first in size in Tennessee. In addition to providing firefighters for all local emergencies and acts of heroism including rescuing people from burning buildings and other rescues, the department also provides ambulance service to surrounding towns. The Mount Juliet Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The district includes 135 contributing buildings dating from 1792 to 1925.

Mount Juliet, Tennessee is the smallest town in the state of Tennessee and has the distinction of being the only place in the United States without a post office. The population was just over 1,000 at the time of its incorporation as a town on July 1, 1871. Today, Mount Juliet's ZIP code is 37029. The small town located adjacent to Chattanooga was founded by surveyors working for General John Sevier during his campaign for governor in 1847. Sevier had been seeking an opportunity to annex what were then section 10 and 11 of Chattanooga because those areas adjoined Knox County and he saw an opportunity to create a new county with less competition from Athens, Georgia. The land that now makes up Mount Juliet was surveyed by James Akins and named after Colonel George Shelby, who had served under General Andrew Jackson during the Mexican-American War. The first settler in Mount Juliet was Samuel McCullough who arrived in 1851. McCullough built a cabin on what is today Church Street and developed a small agricultural business around it before purchasing some additional land nearby for development. McCullough's son-in-law, Elijah Dickson also purchased land nearby and soon started building mills which became one of Mount Juliet's most important economic engines until the early 20th century when they were replaced by larger ones farther away. By 1860, there were 7 businesses operating out of Mount Juliet with a total payroll valued at $5,811 In 1871, when Mount Juliet incorporated as a town it had just over 1 hundred residents living within its borders but by 1890 it had grown to 3 thousand people with over 120 businesses located within its limits including banks (the first bank west of Memphis), schools (five elementary schools followed by two high schools), churches (one Methodist Episcopal church opened in 1862) and several stores including J & H Smiths Hardware Store which operated until 1924 when it merged into Sears Roebuck & Co.'s store across downtown Chattanooga
In 1795, the Treaty of Greeneville was signed between America and Great Britain. It provided for a protectorate by the United States over the territory of Tennessee. The treaty ceded land to Great Britain in return for £10,000 sterling. This event is celebrated annually as Tennessee's birthday. The area now known as Mount Juliet was first settled by settlers in 1796. They named their new town after General Andrew Jackson, who had become president of the United States that year. The town grew rapidly and soon became a major center for trade and commerce in what is now eastern Tennessee. In 1819, Congress created Montgomery County, which included Mount Juliet, and transferred its jurisdiction over it to that county. During the Civil War (1861-1865), Mount Juliet sided with the Union side against Confederate forces. As a result, most of its businesses were destroyed or lost their owners during this time period. However, some residents did manage to keep their homes and businesses intact until 1865. By then, many people had moved away from Mount Juliet due to various reasons such as economic hardship or political instability in eastern Tennessee during Reconstruction. After the war ended in 1865, much of what remained of Mount Juliet was abandoned again until it was acquired by the city of Nashville in 1907 pursuant to an act of Congress entitled "An Act For Promoting Justice And Reforming Institutions In The Territory Of Tennesse." At that time, much effort was made to renovate and modernize both the old downtown buildings and outlying areas while preserving some aspects of traditional mountain life such as hunting and fishing opportunities on nearby Cumberland River valleysides].
