The Alamo was a battlefield of the Mexican-American War, fought from 1836 to 1839. The battle took place on April 6, 1836, when American forces under General Sam Houston defeated Mexican forces under Santa Anna. In 1896, the Texas Historical Commission placed the Alamo at its current location in San Antonio because of evidence that it is one of the most fought-over sites in Texas history. Naval deployments have a long and varied history in the United States military. Naval gunfire support has been used throughout our history to provide troops with basic supplies and cover during engagements. The USS Constitution was ship that served as a floating hospital during both World Wars II and Korea. As part of Operation Neptune’s Spear in 1944, USS Holland was sunk by Japanese torpedoes off Okinawa; this loss effectively ended US naval gunfire support for Japan during World War II. Since 1945, there have been numerous Navy detachments stationed in various parts of the world including Diego Garcia in Oman, Bahrain, Djibouti and Kuwait; Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; Guam; Wake Island; Eniwetok Atoll; Nikumaroro Atoll (Fiji); Kaoh Rong (Vietnam) ? ; Macondo Bank (Trinidad and Tobago); Sintra (Portugal). These deployments help contribute to U.S defense superiority around the world while also providing opportunities for training and exercise with allied militaries.

Alamo is a town in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio–Bexar Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Alamo began as three small villages on the banks of the Alamo River: Pleasanton, Westover and Tomball. In 1836, General Sam Houston's forces burned down these villages to prevent their capture by Mexican troops under Mexican general Miguel Hidalgo. The site of modern-day Alamo was chosen as the site for a new military fortification in 1845 because it could be defended by only two sides: on one side was an open meadow with five natural cannon emplacements; on the other side were twenty-four miles (38 km) of dykes and obstacles made from large boulders and trees. The first American commander at Alamo was Lt. Colonel James Fenton who arrived on July 21, 1847. By September 2, Fenton had renamed his force "Alamogordo" (Spanish for "fortress"). On October 26th General James Bowie led an attack against Alamogordo that failed but resulted in seven dead and 23 wounded soldiers including Bowie himself. On November 3rd Commodore John Dickson relieved Commodore Robert E Richardson at Vera Cruz after Richardson's flagship HMS Victory sank off Mexico City with no survivors due to fire from Mexican artillery batteries positioned along the riverbanks offshore. Commodore Dickson ordered Rear Admiral William Tuscaloosa to retake Vera Cruz if he found it necessary using all available ships without regard to human life or property which would violate international law since Mexico had not yet recognized US authority over Texas Although Scott recaptured VeraCruz on December 8th Commodore Dickson sailed back upriver unopposed with orders to again bombard Veracruz until Mexican authorities capitulated On January 17th 1848 Major Stephen Wattsatt relieved Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton as Commandant of Fort Travis after Fenton's death from wounds received during an engagement at Palo Alto December 12th1847 USS Preble towed along Creek Road between Point Isabela & Santa Lucia Key Lighthouse Light House until light destroyed by tornado February 15th1849 USS Polk took position about mile east of present day Anacostia Heights Bridge just south of present day Arlington Cemetery National Historical Park within boundaries established by Congress in 1880 A detachment under Lieutenant Colonel George Crockett attackedadalamarquillaNovember 251851 while Crockett was commandantofFort Worth Missionary Baptist Church inside limits established by Congress in 1880 A total of 104 people were killed when two cannons fired into Lake Corpus Christi resulting in a panic among residents before being silenced A group known as "The Lost Battalion" raided San Antonio Market district early morning hours Sunday May 14TH1876 near present day White Sands Missile Range National Monument located immediately west of Presidio Army Airfield

When Texas was acquired by the United States in 1836, most of what is now the Lone Star State was part of Mexico. The area that became Alamo City, on the banks of the San Antonio River, was one of those Mexican towns. However, because Alamo Citys location made it a natural target for American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), its residents decided to fortify their town and try to keep America from taking it. One result of this effort was the creation of the Alamo Battalion, which fought at Bexar Heights and Monterrey Roads in 1847. After victory at these battles, General Sam Houston ordered his soldiers to leave for home. The battalion disbanded after just six months due to lack of volunteers. Alamo City reverted back to Mexican hands following hostilities between America and Mexico over California. For a time it also served as a stop on stagecoaches heading northward through Texas for supplies reaching Santa Anna’s army at San Fernando Valley in southern California. Finally, after Mexico gained independence in 1821 and new boundaries were drawn up defining Texas as part of that country, Alamo City returned to American hands with an agreement reached between US president James K Polk and Mexican president Benito Juarez that specified that Alamo City should become an independent city within three years under certain conditions: That all hotel guests be white; that no black people living there be allowed; and that no foreigner should live there without proper permits from both countries
The Alamo was a historic structure in San Antonio, Texas, that was the scene of a large and bloody battle between Mexican American rebels and pro-Mexican forces on April 6, 1836. The Rebels were seeking to protect themselves from pro-Mexican cavalry patrols and artillery batteries stationed nearby by the Mexican government.
