The history of the Coast Guard in Allen, Texas can be traced back to 1875. The first Coast Guard station in the area was built on a small island near what is now downtown Allen. In 1915, the original Coast Guard House was erected in downtown Allen and served as the agency’s headquarters until 1927 when it was moved to Fort Worth. The next year, the Coast Guard Station at Gettysburg became operational. During World War II, the Coast Guard Station at Templeport operated as an airfield for fighter bombers and other aircraft. In 1951, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron were transferred from Templeport toAllen and served as both stations’ commanding officers until 1957 when they were combined into one commandant general station located at Fort Worth. From 1957-1972, Headquarters (HQ) Squadron also served as Commandant General of Port Aransas District which included present day Corpus Christi County. In 1972-1975 Headquarters (HQ) Squadron again served as Commandant General of Corpus Christi County before being reactivated in Ft Worth in 1975. Since its inception, HQ squadron has been responsible for all aspects of coast guard operations within Harrison County including law enforcement; search and rescue; coastal navigation; maritime security; marine pollution control; recreational boating; fisheries conservation; public access points;; harbor defense measures;; emergency service coordination;; training programs for new or potential officers and members of the coast guard community.; historical research.; equipment maintenance.; funding from sources such as appropriations Acts., state grants,, individual contributions., joint military/ civilian cooperative agreement

Allen, Texas is a small town located in Potter County, Texas. The population was 1,854 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Potter County and has a retail center and one high school. The town was founded in 1876 by John C. Allen and his brother-in-law, James A. Fenton. The first post office was established in Allen on July 16, 1876. The town became an agricultural center during the early years of its existence due to its location on the Wichita River floodplain which allowed for irrigation of large areas of the surrounding countryside. In 1916, when Wichita State University became a university, Allen became its campus town and continues to be so today. Agricultural production declined during World War II because of military spending in nearby Houston; however, local farmers continued to produce crops until after the war ended. During this time period there were two churches in Allen: First Presbyterian and then Baptist (now Evangelical). In 1957 it became possible for people without land to purchase parcels from landowners within Potter County for $1 per acre ($40 per hectare). This change led to significant growth in the community as people began moving into the area seeking new opportunities or expanding their families (the number of homes doubled between 1960 and 1970 alone). One result was thatAllen's downtown business district grew from about 10 businesses out of 100 total businesses in 1970 to more than 30 by 1990; while other districts such as Midtown Chandler shrank significantly over this time period due largely to suburbanization elsewhere within Potter County. Today, ranchers continue to make up a significant portion of Allen's economy with many farms covering more than 2 square miles (5 km²). Some residents still farm using animal husbandry but also engage in some manufacturing activities such as clothing manufacturing or agriculture related services including trucking feed grains to customers throughout central Texas; Power Equipment & Mfg., Inc.'s major customer base is centered around Amarillo outside Dallas/Ft Worth area where they build power equipment
