In 1946, the Amarillo Air National Guard was activated and served as a reserve unit until it was disbanded in 1987. On November 3rd of that year, KSJO-1 became KNRAQ-FM when it swapped frequencies with KFBU-AM from Wichita Falls, Texas. KNRAQ-FM played country music from 6am until 10am while KFBU-AM aired news programs from 10am until 2pm. Prior to this swap, KSJO-1 had been KOINL-FM which had been playing mainstream rock music since 1928.
