Navy deployments have been a part of the Texas military community for many years. The 1st Marine Division was Deployed to Okinawa in 1945 and again in 1951. The 1st Marine Regiment Deployed to Japan in 1955 and the 2d Marines were Deployed to Beirut, Lebanon in 1982. In 1991, the Navy sent a unit, HMCS Regina-class Destroyer Squadron 5 (DSV-5) to detached service at Naval Base San Diego, California as part of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The USS Omaha (LCS 9) arrived on station on October 20,1991 and served as the flagship of DSV-5 until her return home on December 11,1991. The deployment of USS Indianapolis (LCS 7) happened during Operation Noble Eagle which was an effort by the United States Department of Defense to recover remains from Japanese forces who had committed suicide during World War II. On October 25th 1994 USS Indianapolis departed Yokosuka Prefecture withboundloads of supplies for Bahrain after delivery of positive evidence that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction which he failed to disclose when he claimed his country didn’t have such weapons during his first visit to Kuwait 10 days earlier

Andrews, Texas was founded by James Andrews in 1839. The town was named after Andrew's brother, John A. Andrews. The town developed around a local lumber company and the railroads that passed through it. By the 1920s, Andrews had become a small agricultural community with few businesses. However, during the 1930s, Andrews experienced a dramatic growth in population due to its location on the Texas Panhandle and its access to cotton fields. In 1945, when World War II ended, Andrews became an important hub for defense activity in West Texas because of its proximity to Wichita Falls and Amarillo. After the war,Andrews experienced a period of economic decline as farmers turned to other activities such as cattle ranching and Manufacturing instead of trade with other parts of the country. However, by the late 1980s and early 1990s, Andrews had regained some of its former prominence as an agricultural center with several thousand residents. Today, Andrews is known for its historical sites including the original Lumber Company House and Depot which are open to visitors each day from 9am-4pm; The Andrew family Cemetery; and its annual Cotton Festival which features art galleries and music performances throughout downtown every Saturday morning from 10am-3pm
In 1875, Andrew Davis became the first white settler in what is now Andrews County, Texas. He and his wife, Margaret, came from Kentucky to start a new life in what is now Andrews County after fleeing the Ku Klux Klan. The couple founded a log cabin and named it "Davis Ranch" in honor of their newly acquired land. Davis worked the land for many years before becoming an entrepreneur and cattle rancher. In 1916, he built the first school in Andrews County, which today serves as a community center.
