The first post office was established at Andrews in 1876, but never used because only general mail was transported there then as now by wagon or stagecoach overland from Medina County seat Dallas. A post office called Fort Worth opened Cove Creek Station on February 14th 1877 and closed January 2nd 1916 because of continuous warfare between Mexican forces occupying Texas Territory along with troops stationed at various points along the border including Fort Worth; both posts were part of Major John Hance's Regiment commanded by General Sam Houston until its surrender June 12th 1870 after more than six months' fighting against Native American attacks supported by Ulysses S Grant and other military commanders under President Abraham Lincoln during wartime US expansionism).
