The United States Army has a rich history in Arlington, Texas. The first U.S. military unit to be stationed in the city was the 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment of Infantry on July 24, 1861. The battalion was mustered into service as part of the Union army and fought in the American Civil War from 1861-1865. In 1888, Arlington stationed its own artillery regiment, which became known as the 5th Brigade Artillery of the Regular Army Reserve Corps. This brigade was reassigned to Fort Worth and served there until 1918 when it returned to Arlington for good. In 1924, Arlington commissioned its first battalion of infantry-the 2nd Battalion-9th Regiment of Infantry on October 15th under command of Major General John Foust Butler III. Butler would later serve as Commanding General, United States Third Army during World War II and also hold several other positions within the army before his death in 1958 at age 81 years old. After Butler's death, his battalion passed through several commanders before being placed under command of Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Baskerville who would remain with it until 1966 when he led it intoactivated due to an armistice agreement between the United States and Nazi Germany. When Fort Worth Municipal Airport opened in 1945, LtCol Baskerville decided that an armory should be built there too and began construction on what would become known as "Arlington Arsenal." The building finally opened its doors to the public on November 14th 1950 after months of planning and construction by local civilian volunteers aided by soldiers from Company E/715TH Arty., 3rd Battalion/27TH Inf., 4th Brigade Combat Team/2nd Infantry Division (Mechanized) based out of Ft Worth AFB TX During this time period many famous members or generals have visited or been associated with Arlington including Dwight Eisenhower who spoke at an open house event attended by then Mayor James Forrestal; Generals Omar Bradley (USMC), George Creighton (USA), Curtis LeMay ( USAF), Robert Erskine (RAAF) among others In 1957 a new annex was added adjacent to Gate A which housed four rifle ranges viz: 100 yard long rifle range(Allison Givens Range), 50 yard rifle range(George Hildebrandt Range), 30 yard rifle range(Bryan Stevenson Range) These ranges were used for training both enlisted Soldiers and Officers prior to their deployments overseas during Vietnam . Also located here were two machine gun ranges viz: one 10x50mm M1A3 fire control position designed for rapid acquisition over large areas using automatic sighting devices; another 10x60mm M2HB heavy machine gun position commonly affectionately called "The Hell Hole" because when firing missions near Nha Trang Province they could often count on obtaining multiple kills per minute Additionally these ranges played home to several small arms such as Thompson Submachine Guns (.30 cal.), Browning Automatic Rifles (.30 cal.), Remington 870 Shotguns (.45 cal.) among others

Arlington, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Arlington County. The name Arlington comes from Arlington Heights, a neighborhood within Austin that was annexed by Arlington in 1876. The first European settlers in what is now Arlington came from Ireland around 1750. The area where Arlington now sits was part of Sabine Parish until 1836 when it became part of Travis County. In 1881, following the Mexican–American War, Mexico ceded all but Trimble County to American sovereignty as well as Travis County’s capital of Austin. At this time much of eastern Travis County lay within what is now Arlington Township on site of present day Crystal City shopping center and future Ballpark Village developments along I-35W (now Loop 610). The town plat for Crystal City – which would eventually become Arlington – was filed on November 2, 1881 with Wm Gorman as assessor/agent and Jno Hargrave as engineer/ Surveyor-General under contract with the General Land Office under AAG George Wright Ruffin & Son (1846-1927). On January 31st 1870 Charles Goodloe donated land to establish Goodloe Park adjacent to what would later become Rosslyn Cemetery; Goodloe had come from Dublin England some years earlier to start a cotton plantation near Nacogdoches (now HOUSTON). From Goodloe’s donation many other gifts followed including: 50 acres west side lot #6 in Rosslyn Cemetery northeast corner at High Street; 6 lots east side lot #1 across higher ground then current site of Crystal City Shopping Center north side streets abutting creek between Third Street east and West Streets), Lots 7 south side lot #5 across lower ground then current site Of Ballpark Village developments along I-35W Arlington Heights began forming around 1890 when about 100 German immigrants purchased or received grants from Trinity Church for their settlement east of Interstate 35W near today's Rosslyn Cemetery where they established “Gemeindehaus” or communal homes which soon became known as "Haus der Gemeinde" or house of community。As early as 1888 there were plans for an elementary school in Rock Creek Park adjacent to Crystal City Shopping Center northeast corner Third Street between East Boulevard and West Boulevard called “Emanuel School” although no school ever opened due to financial difficulties faced by Trinity Episcopal Church Committee members during that decade…In 1903 developer John SangerPhase 1 built houses on more than 200 acres just southwest boundary line extending into Addison Road becoming future downtown Dallas……During World War II many Americans served including 23 generals who lived within walking distance including MacArthur who resided less than two miles NW corner 3rd street & Elm St….The men's club located at 820 N Main St., later renamed "The Globe", started operations June 1941…..One important development associated with World War II took place whenCrystalCityChurches new prayer hall constructed serving both local military forces stationed nearby such as Air Force Base Killeen while also accommodating Japanese American Citizens living northwest suburban Oak Lawn…In 1954 Rev Dr Harry Emerson Fenton organized First PresbyterianChurch also located on property east southeast corner Third Street between Elm Street and South Boulevard soon becoming home parish for several hundred Baptists refugees coming originally from KoreaHalifax NS Canada
