The National Guard of Texas was created on February 17, 1845 by the Act of September 14, 1844. It was originally called the “Arlington Militia” and it served as a militia force in Arlington County until 1861. The first national guard unit to be activated in Texas was Company K of the First Regiment of Texas Infantry on November 5, 1845. The regiment was mustered into service for three years and two months and saw service at Fort Bend County Fairgrounds while also being mobilized for two months during the Mexican-American War. On April 30, 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee ordered all state militias to muster out and join his army within 24 hours or face martial law. Unfortunately for the state militias, this order did not apply to them because they were not part of the Confederate government. The only exceptions were Company D of the Second Regiment of Texas Infantry which had been organized specifically for duty with Confederate forces in Galveston Bayou but decided not to participate in hostilities because their garrison there would have been summarily arrested if necessary. In May 1861 President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order creating Headquarters Department of Defense with overall command over all military operations in the Union states without regard to house or county units thereof composed solely or principally thereof according to strength or convenience thereto existing at that time (i.e., volunteer companies). Thisorder provided for national guard units serving alongside regular infantry divisions under direct command when such services could be rendered without delay; however, theseunits would report directly to Headquarters Department rather than either divisional commander(s) (1st Brigade District Commander James Hogg being among those exception). On July 12th 1862 Congress passed acts providing for organization and armingofat least fifty thousand men within five months commencing January 1st 1863 as well as authorizations for additional troops arrival uponthe coast pending call up from local authorities subjectto requisition by Headquarters Department; however no suchcall ever came about so these additional troops were never properly deployed The first unit activation occurred on November 5th 1945 when Company K detached from First Regiment Tex & joined Army Corp Reserve at San Antonio under orders from then Governor Coke Stevenson and later that same day arrived at Ft Hood TX Company KActivatedFor Three Years And Two Months For Service At Fort Bend County Fairgrounds

In 1907 mayor James Kenealy proposed annexing by Arlington Heights which was defeated at a referendum held that same year with 54% against annexation and 46% for it; however this proposal was resurrected in 1913 when Harnett County became involved in litigation over property rights within the city limits caused by development along Turtle Creek east of I-10 freeway between Fort Worth and Midland which had been done without consulting Arlington about it. That effort failed also with only 52% against annexation - again despite Kenealy's proposal - but this time successfully carried out through passage of an ordinance pledging town status to all annexed municipalities regardless of whether they voted yes or no on annexation ballots that year. In 1925 Arlington Heights withdrew from incorporation because its citizens did not want to become part of what they saw as becoming one big city while Dallas continued to grow rapidly and annex more villagesanches into their expanding boundaries; however this didn't stopDallas from annexing Arlington Heights again in 1930 followed by McKinney two years later then continuing annexation into perpetuity until 2007 when legislation changedvisor requirements so all cities must have a 50% voter turnout before being annexed into any municipality even if they don't file paperwork formally stating that intention
