These ships were brought upriver from Corpus Christi where they had been stored since World War II. The City of Austin put up $5 million of its own money for restoration and refurbishment; the remainder came from private donations, government grants, and tuition discounts for UTAustin students. Today there are more than 600 active navy sailors stationed here in Austin – including about 50 who live on campus – with a total budget of over $1 million annually just for equipment maintenance! This massive presence is one reason why so much has changed here since WWII when our country’s first military installation in TX wasn’t even operational! After all these years, we still can appreciate how wonderful it is that our country allows us not only access to some fine physical infrastructure but also countless memories with friends we have made along the way… especially those who have served our nation faithfully!

On November 15th 2007TxDOT finally announced their intentions to rebuild portions of downtown that were destroyed during ProjectLink; these renovations will include new office buildings (including One UTREX), new parking garages and other improvements necessary for continued success with light rail services.
