The first Europeans to explore and settle in present-day Azle were ranch hands who came from New Mexico around 1845. The area that became Azle was originally called "Hogan's Ford" because Major John Hogan, an American hero and scout during the Mexican War, camped there on his way from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls in 1846. In 1870, Rev. William Hance founded a Methodist church here and named it after himself – Hance Valley (present day Azle). In 1886, local physician J.B. McFarlane opened a general store in what is now known as McFarlane Square and soon began selling goods necessary for cattle raising including feed and water supplies directly to farmers in what is now parts of Amarillo and Rocksville counties. During this time some very important events took place here: on December 12th 1860 Drayton McLennan married Sarah Jane Bowers at the First Methodist Church; on February 2nd 1861 James Bowie married Anna Belle Beeson at Stinson's Chapel; on May 25th 1861 Jesse Grimes received communion from Bishop George Hill at Zion Baptist Church; on October 10th 1861 Sheriff Donelson Fenton arrested several Texans for treasonous activities during The Civil War when Confederate General Robert Ewing invaded Texas with about 60 men

Azle is a town in Archer County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,696 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first people to live in Azle were German immigrants who settled there in 1859. A post office called Azle was established in 1870, and continued to be operation until 1907. The name "Azle" comes from the Wichita dialect of English which originated around this same time. In 1881, a cattle drive westward through Archer County stopped near what is now Azle. A group of men decided to stay and started a small business near the present day intersection of FM 1093 and TX 288. They began branding cattle fortexas railroad companies and selling their meat at local fairs across the county. In 1905, Lester Sperry donated land to build a school on which Azle High School was built that same year. The first students graduated from high school in 1908-09. In 1916, the Mexican American War broke out and many residents enlisted in the military; as a result, most businesses closed during that time period due to lack of customers or support from friends and family members back home. After World War II ended with Japan's victory over Nazi Germany, many Japanese Americans who had been living in America returned home (many arrived before Pearl Harbor). This new wave of Japanese Americans brought with them some skills they may have used while living overseas- such as carpentry- so when those skills became available again after hostilities ended it helped spur economic development within town limits overall starting right up until current day!
