Calloway Jr., who received crates of rifles and pistols from U.S. arms manufacturer Colt during the war. calloway later served as mayor of Azle and then as a U.S. Congressman from 1923 to 1931 before dying in office at the age of 82 years old. The next significant recipient of military equipment was World War I veteran George Fertitta Jr., who Received a shipment of machine guns, grenades, antitank mines, gasoline tanks and artillery pieces from American munitions manufacturer Barnes & Noble after he helped fight for France during World War I. After the war ended, Fertitta enjoyed some success financially thanks to his connections within French society and he donated many items to various museums around Europe including one in Paris that features a replica gun barrel from his collection! Through the years there have been other notable donors such as Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones (whose family owns azle resident Arlington County) or former Texas Governor Rick Perry (whose wife is alsofrom Azle). Azle is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,640 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Azle were Native American Indians who migrated from Minnesota and Wisconsin around 1800. The Mexicans who came after that brought their own culture with them and soon there were several Ghost Towns on the banks of the Brazos River. One of these was called "Avila" because it was once home to an Avila family. In 1835, General Sam Houston sent Cavalry to clear land for a new county seat and they discovered coal beds near present-day Azle. Mining began in earnest in this area and by 1845 there were over seventy mines operating here along with two stores, one hotel and four blacksmiths shops. Coal mining continued until about 1900 when it came to an end due to technical advances in hydraulics and other engineering solutions. The first school started up here in 1836 but only lasted six months beforeclosed down because of lack of finances. Classes resumed in March 1840 under teacher John Crainy but again closed down due to lack of funds just two weeks later so Mr Fenton took over as Principal until he too resigned due to financial concerns related to his own farm operation which had become bogged down into debtors’ call schedule (Fenton also had been a trustee on the original Board of Trustees for which Azle was founded). In 1861 local citizens voted not to secede from Texas during the American Civil War but did leave behind a legacy by erecting three Confederate battleflags at various locations around town: one near Main Street, another atop said Main Street building (now gone), and another located nearby on US Highway 183 east of town center (still standing today). shortly thereafter Reconstruction began following post-war Reconstruction policies introduced by President Ulysses S Grant which focused heavily upon honoring former slaveowners while providing equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of race or class background; this policy led directly toazle's current position as one of only a few remaining towns without African Americans living therein during that time period despite overwhelming evidence otherwise throughout much southern Texas! Employment opportunities were meager at best so many residents turned out for jobs opened up back east during World War II as munitions workers – including many azlemans who enlisted then served right outta college! Many thanks go outto those aforementioned military personnel plus countless others who contributed their time & skillsduring those lean years – both male & female alike! Today azle boasts 3rd Generation descendants working hard downtown among many other businesses providing employment & good economic prospects! Quite an accomplishment considering that most folks hereabouts only learned about their participationin today's community through history textbooks/videos/movies 😃
