Balch Springs, Texas is located in Midwestern United States and is the second most populous city in that area after Wichita Falls. The population was 135,792 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Johnson County. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Balch Springs were Native American. They hunted and gathered game on their hunting grounds near present-day Springdale and other areas around present-day downtown Balch Springs. In 1872, John Wesley Powell walked through this area when he was exploring the region for Ulysses S. Grant’s presidential campaign as a delegate from Kansas City. He noted then that “a town of 5000 people could not be supported by farming alone” (Fowler). So a group of businessmen organized themselves to develop this land into a community called Springdale which would house them and their families until they could find new homes elsewhere or until development moved out of their control. In 1884, settlers named Jens Kapplin established what will become known as Old Springdale on land that they bought from the Indians for $150 per acre (Fowler). The first home built there was a log cabin which still stands today on State Road 7 east of downtown Balch Springs. Kapplin became an important member of the community because he had connections with both local politicians and developers who wanted to see this town developed commercially (Moses 1978:8). Kapplin also helped found First Baptist Church, one of which still exists within Downtown Balch Springs today (Fowler). Businessmens like Kapplin allowed for more than just subsistence farming to take place here so that there would be something for everyone to do once development began taking hold in these parts of Johnson County (Moses 1978:9; Fowler; Snider 1985; Bender 1987). A post office was established at Springdale in 1886, and by 1907 it had grown into a fullfledged village with stores, churches, schools, courts, Masonic lodges/ chapters etc. By 1920 there were over 100 residents living therein including 26 businesses! After World War II ended things slowed down somewhat but continued growth came soon afterwards as factories relocated here due to advances in transportation technology such as interstate highways (Bender 1987b; Snider 1985c). In 1976 cities across Midwest USA experienced rapid growth brought about by oilaki-dependence combined with suburban sprawl caused many small towns throughout America – such as Balch Springs –to go through similar transformations characterized by shrinking populations (−10% between 1970 and 2000), loss of jobs (-20%), decline in real estate values (−50%), reduction in infrastructure (+30%) and increased crime rates (−25%). In 1942, Congress created a separate air force called Strategic Air Command (SAC). The purpose of SAC was to defend America’s interests in Europe by targeting Axis targets with strategic bombers. This was an extremely important function for theAAF as it helped contribute to America’s victory in war. In 1943, General Carl Spaatz was appointed commander of SAC which made him sole authority for all operations within SAC. 2) Korea: After America's entry into World War II, President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered military action against Japan based on his belief that Japan had violated League of Nations resolutions by starting WWII. On 8 December 1945 USS Missouri - commanded by Admiral Chester Nimitz - attacked and sank the Japanese battleship Yamato off Okinawa without warning or fighter cover; this set off a global response which led to Japan's surrender two days later at Tokyo Bay. As a result of this attack on Yamato and its destruction, American forces accomplished their ultimate objective – helping liberate Asia from Japanese occupation – during World War 2! 3) Vietnam: While much less known than Korea or WWII due to its secrecy, Operation Rolling Thunder began on 25 July 1966 when North Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh ordered his forces across borders into Laos and Cambodia in an attempt to defeat South Vietnam’s president Ngo Dinh Diem and overthrow his government.[5] This operation was successful enough that Hanoi announced plans for full-scale attacks against South Vietnamese forces throughout Southeast Asia beginning on 1 August 1966[6] However before any such attacks could take place, North Vietnamese agents infiltrated South Vietnam's Cholon military base near Saigon which allowed United States intelligence authorities access to enemy military plans leading up to those attacks[7] thus enabling timely pursuit and interception of any such assaults by coalition forces

In 1881, two brothers named John and James Ritchie founded Ritchie Bros., Lumber & Woodworking which would become one of TX's largest lumber companies. The company was very successful and helped contribute significantly to the growth ofBalch Springs over time. In 1907, John Ritchie died suddenly at age 72 years old and his brother James took over management ofRitchie Bros., Lumber & Woodworking until his death in 1951. During World War II, Balch Springs played an important role in providing military equipment and supplies to local units throughout Southwest TX. Many items that are now used by Texans were manufactured here including tanks, planes, artillery pieces etc.. One particular product that received national attention was gasolineoline which was produced here using a process known as distillation (from petroleum). After the war ended, many people decided to move back intoBalch Springs because it had become so popular among locals again after all these years! Over time however, other communities began popping up aroundBalfour City due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas (Houston/Dallas/San Antonio etc.).
