Balch Springs is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Balch Springs Post Office opened on November 12, 1892, and closed on May 13, 1963. The town was named for George W. Balch who had a store in the town from 1881-1892. He also donated land to the town for development. In 1938, General Store & Cafe was built and operated by J. C. Balch until his death in 1951. His son John C. Balch Jr., ran the business until it closed in 1984 after twenty years of operation according to "Community Newspaper" article dated October 20th 1984 issue entitled "Coffee Business closes doors". The building still stands vacant today and has been converted into an apartment complex known as "The Gables".
