In 1816, Commodore James Kenedy sailed into Galveston Bay with a squadron of 12 ships and captured an Spanish merchant ship laden with supplies for Cuba. This victory demonstrated U.S naval power and supremacy on the Mexican Gulf coast. In 1835, Admiral David Dixon Porter ordered his flagship USS Constitution to sail into Galveston Harbor to demand passage from Mexico for American traders sailing to San Francisco Bay. Mexico refused and gunfire continued until Constitution reached land late that night without encountering any Spanish vessels or soldiers. This event is known as "The Battle of Houston." During World War II, Balch Springs became one of the most significant naval ports in Texas due to its strategic location at Corpus Christi (just north of Dallas) and its deep water access from Corpus Christi Bayou

Balch Springs, Texas is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The first people to live in Balch Springs were Native Americans who hunted and fished in the area. The modern day town was founded by John W. Balch and James M. Ferguson on May 25, 1881 as a result of the railroad coming through the area. The town was named after Benjamin Fenton Balch, a rancher who donated land for the city's development. In 1915, an annex to Dallas was created which included what is now Balch Springs; this made it possible for Balch Springs to be established as its own municipality instead of being part of Dallas suburbia. In 1951, construction began on Interstate 20 which passed through downtown Balch Springs and led to much business growth for the city; however, due to traffic congestion and other problems with the highway, work stopped in 1978 and only continued sporadically until 1993 when it finally reopened following major repairs necessitated by heavy rains that year. during that time many businesses closed because they could not afford to stay open during bad weather conditions or because they did not have insurance against floods caused by I-20 reconstruction projects elsewhere in Texas. Today, downtownBalchSprings has returned back into full business operation thanks largely to donations from individuals along with government grants and tax breaks from local jurisdictions; most notably from Tarrant County itself which has helped make Restaurants such as Hooters & Baja Cantina more affordable within walking distance of almost every resident while also promoting tourism throughout central TX (see map) . With so much progress made since I-20 reopened (in 1993), why did another large project need to be completed just outside of town called "DMV Connector" project? This $35 million dollar project will connect I-10W/I-635E southbound within 1 mile of downtown with northbound I-635E/Upper Main Street providing access both ways making it easier for drivers getting around town without having Dealerships blocks them off like they are currently doing? If you drive down Upper Main Street you can see all sorta 4 big rigs parked on either side of UPRoading Road near Walmart! Now THAT’S Town Hall!!!

Finally, Admiral Harry S Truman ordered Operation Neptune’s Spear which led to Japan’s surrender at Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
