The Bedford Coast Guard Station was built in 1923 and became operational in 1924. The coast guard station was manned by the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department until 1951 when it was transferred to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The fire department continued to be staffed by the volunteer firefighters until 1991 when they were absorbed into the Texas State Fire Authority.
Bedford is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,658 at the 2010 census. Bedford is located on the eastern edge of Hudspeth County and is bordered by Beaumont to the north, Port Arthur to the east and south, and Archer City to the west. The first people who lived in present-day Bedford were Native Americans who hunted big game in what is now Hudspeth County. A post office was established at Bedford in 1867, and it remained open until 1915. The community was named for General George Bedford of Virginia who had been killed during the Mexican–American War. The oil industry began operations in Bedford in 1951 when American Oil Company leased land from Philco Corporation for an exploratory well. The wells were later developed into the Barnett Shale field which has produced more than 20 billion barrels of oil since its inception. In 2007, ExxonMobil merged with ChevronTexaco to form ExxonMobil XOM Incorporated. as a result of this merger, both companies ceased production at their two smaller shale fields near Bedford (the Eagle Ford Shale field and the Midland Shale field). Despite this decline in production, both ExxonMobil XOM Incorporated and ChevronTexaco continue to be headquartered in Bedford because they are part of a larger multinational corporation whose businesses intersect there

Bedford, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. Bedford is named after General John Bedford and his wife, Sarah Churchill. The community was founded in 1881 by John and Sarah's son-in-law, George Waddell. Bedford saw its first post office on October 1, 1881. The community had a population of just ten people when it began to serve as a stop on the Santa Fe Railway. In 1902, Bedford experienced its first tornado when a gust of wind caused branches to snap near the local farmhouse. This tornado killed five people and injured twenty-five others. In 1909, generalElectricity arrived in Bedford and changed everything that had been done there before; new stores were built along Main Street while old ones were destroyed or converted into homes or businesses. A new school was also built along Main Street during this time period (now known as Maplewood Elementary). In 1916, Bedford became one of the original counties within Texas when it was created from parts of Tamaulipas and San Antonio County. In 1934, Bedfords merged with neighboring Hudspeth County to form what is now called Webb County (named for General James Webb who served as governor of Texas from 1907-1909). On February 14th, 1959 (the date which would have been Abraham Lincoln's birthday), Bedfords incorporated as an independent city under the name of Bedford City Limits because they did not want their name associated with Hudspeth County which still functioned as their county courthouse until 1966 when it closed its doors for good. On May 1st of each year since 1991 (except for 2002), residents inBedford celebrate "Carnival Day" by having a parade through downtown followed by fireworks over nearby Lake Texoma at 9pm EST/6pm PST
Bedford was founded by Ephraim Bedford in 1836. The town grew rapidly, and by 1870 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1878, the town voted to form a municipality, and on July 1, 1879, Bedford became an independent city.
