During World War II, many businesses in Benbrook were related to military production or service: including Ford Motor Company’s Wichita Ordnance Plant; Continental Motors’ Kansas City Assembly Plant; and Bechtel National Corporation’s Wichita Landfill Complex (now Schlumberger). Today, much of downtown Benbrook remains unchanged since its incorporation as a town on July 15th 1907: including Main Street between Haskell Avenue and I-30/281; Second Street between Haskell Avenue and FM 756; Westheimer Drive between Masonic Boulevard and FM 535; Northland Drive east of Masonic Boulevard; Southland Drive west of Masonic Boulevard (the original streets name). Downtown also includes three churches: First Baptist Church on Main Street south of Haskell Avenue; Christman United Methodist Church across from FM 535 on Southland Drive southwest of Masonic Boulevard ; and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church northwest of Cedar Springs Road just outside city limits on Cedar Springs Road .
