Borger, Texas is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,904 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Denton metropolitan area. Borger is located on FM 1960 east of Arlington and north of Denton. The first known settler in what is now Borger was John “Pete” Potter who came overland from Tennessee in 1847. Potter married Sarah Cobb in 1851 and they moved to what is now the town limits in 1853. In 1865, James Fenton homesteaded land along US 90 (now US 287) just south of present day Borger. By 1870 there were 10 houses and 100 acres (40 hectares) of land hereabouts including four mills that converted water into flour for local consumption. The townsite name may have been derived from an Indian word meaning "place where the buffalo grazed." At that time it was one of three townships within Tarrant County formed as a result of a statewide order dated December 16, 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant following recommendations from General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry brigade under Lieutenant Colonel James Hance which attacked and destroyed a large herd of Buffaloes near Wichita Falls on November 25th, 1871 while stationed at Fort Worth; this brigade included men from both Texas and Arkansas! In 1898, Southwestern Bell acquired telephone service in Tarrant County so residents could call friends or family anywhere across the state without having to go out to Dallas or Houston. This led to increased business activity around town as people could communicate with those living far away without having to worry about being long distance afraid when they had an emergency! For many years until Telecoms deregulation voted by Congress in 1996 phone service was provided by AT&T which also served as our primary provider until switching over to Comcast/NBCUniversal services effective October 1st 2006! Today Borger is home to several businesses such as Kmart Supercenter (owned since 1984 by Kroger), Barnes & Noble bookstore (since 1966), Dollar General store (since 1978), Target store (opened 1912), Ford dealership (since 1936), Goodyear tire shop (opened 1944), Post Office Box #210536#410811(BORGER TX 77530-12056) - served as post office for most of its history before becoming UPS Store #211 from 2009-2013 neighboring UPS Store #210next door closed due to fire - currently used for storage & has no postal service

In 1892, the first school in Borger opened its doors and until World War II, the only means of education for local children was from private schools. However, with the opening of Central High School in 1959 and then Southside High School in 1979, Borger began to experience significant growth.Today, Borger is home to around 1,000 residents and it is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in southeastern Texas. One of the most important aspects ofborgers history is its role as a hub for cotton production. Between 1900 and 1940, Borger produced over 80% of all cotton harvested in southeast Texas. Additionally, BorGER has been known for its brewing industry which began during Prohibition and continues today. In addition to beer production, many restaurants and bars are also popular withinborGER society.
Borger was founded in 1878 by Ole Borger. The town grew rapidly during the early years of the 1900s, and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,000.
