In 1916, entrepreneur Sam Hawkinson founded the Hawkinson Coffee Company in Brenham and soon began selling coffee from his store directly to consumers. This innovative business model allowed Hawkinson to expand into other businesses such as a bakery and candy store before he died in 1938. The company continued operations until it closed its doors in 1984. During World War II, many soldiers stationed at Fort Hood drank all of the coffee that was available at their barracks because there wasn't enough else to eat! After the war ended, many soldiers moved away from Brenham and missed out on some of the great flavor experiences that Coffee House had to offer them such as monthly sales of beans that would go on sale every weeknight during prohibition time!
