Brownsville, Texas is a small town located in Cameron County, Texas on the Mexican border. The town has been around since 1881 and is known for its coffee. Brownsville was the original home of the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Store, which was founded in 1881 by John W. Brown and his brother-in-law Gifford Bowen. In 1907, the store moved to what is now called Union Street and continued to sell coffee until it closed in 2007. The first time that coffee was brewed in Brownsville was in 1892 when Elias Dominguez plant began making beans here. The first Starbucksopened up in Dallas in 1997. The popularity of coffee startedleaving behind it a following of locals who would come to buy beans from Dominguez or from other local roasters such as Brazos Valley Roasters. In early 2009, Brown's Coffee decided to open a small batch roastery inside their old post office building where they continue to produce quality cup of Joe today. This decision helped start something that has become an annual tradition at Brown's Coffee - the Small Batch Coffee Festival which brings together different local roasters to make delicious cups of coffee with unique flavor profiles all while raising money for good causes!

Brownsville is a city in the US state of Texas. It is the county seat of Brownsville County. The population was 114,844 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the Rio Grande River and is bordered by Hudspeth County to the south, Starr County to the east, Webb County to the north, and Lubbock County to the west. The first European settlers in Brownsville were Frenchmen who arrived in 1769. A grant of land was made to them by Spanish Governor Antonio de Alvarado. In 1836, after Mexico achieved its independence from Spain, Brownsville became part of Texas as part of that state's new territory. In 1846, during Mexican War (1847-48), Brownsville served as an outpost for General Zachary Taylor's army against Mexican forces under José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla. On November 9 of that year, United States troops under Major General Winfield Scott entered Brownsville and burned all buildings within sight without warning or provocation from local residents or their military superiors. This action effectively ended Mexican resistance in what would become known as "The Battle for Brownsville". In 1880, when Texas became a Republic under Ulysses S Grant's presidency, Brownsville became its capital; it had been provisional capital since 1879 because Austin was unable to travel there due to illness or injury. As such, it played an important role in both Republichood movements and during Reconstruction (1865-1912). The city also hosted gubernatorial inaugurations in 1896 (Ulysses S Grant), 1912 (Lloyd Bentsen), 1916 (Alpheus Mills) and 1932 (Howard Ziegler). When World War II began with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, Brownsville saw some of its highest levels of activity: over 30% of all registered vehicles were manufactured within one week; 50% more people worked at UFW plants than anywhere else in Texas; black Americans constituted nearly 60% of all workers employed within Allied industries; over 1 million war materials were moved through BrownsVILLE alone; schoolchildren across town filled up water tanks outside for Coronado High School during rationing days...A numberless businesses closed their doors outfitted only with shipping containers for storage while others turned into warehouses handling arms and munitions from overseas shipments...One hundred thousand men--twenty percent plus those drafted into service--grew up here between 1942 and 1945 working at four main factories: aircraft production plants No.1 & 2 at White Sands Missile Range near Albuquerque; shipbuilding yards No.3 & 4 on Ira Hughes Boulevard near Corpus Christi; and medical supplies plant NoShelby which produced rubber bandages and other medical supplies used by American soldiers throughout World War II...All told more than two million pounds' worth [of goods] passed through BrownsVILLE every day.... BrownsVILLE supplied almost half America's output postwar...Today much remains unchanged despite over seventy years since then: many young people still work here hard putting roofs over heads while others build something better tomorrow."
