The Battle of San Jacinto happened in this county on July 6,1846, during the war. Afterward, many settlers came to this area and began building homes and businesses. The population of Bryan County increased from 3,000 in 1840 to over 20,000 by 1860. In 1881, Bryan County annexed Livingston County which created a new county with a population of 100,000 people.
