The Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 935, making it the most populous metropolitan area in DeKalb County. Bryan was founded in 1876 by John A. Bryan and his family as a small community on the banks of the Trinity River near College Station. In 1912, Bryan became part of the new Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and stayed that way until 1995 when it seceded to form its own independent city government. In 2000, the city annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of Cedar Park and Weatherford to form a new municipality with a population of over 100,000 people. The town's name honors John A.
