In 1957, Johnnie's Coffee House opened up as the first legal espresso roaster in Texas with its own beans and grinding equipment inside of a small warehouse on South Elm Street. In 1984, Starbucks opened their doors to the community making coffee available 24/7 from their corporate headquarters at 6100 McKinney Blvd., just across from Johnnie's Coffee House (now called Joe's Place). It is located on the Brazos River east of Texarkana. Burkburnett was named for John Burk Burnett, an early settler. The town started as a small community near the present-day intersection of U.S. 59 and FM 1957. In 1887, Burnett built a log cabin in what is now Burkburnett and donated it to the county government as its seat. In 1912, Burnett donated land to create a new town site on his farm east ofpresent-day Burbank Road and south of FM 1958 (now US 59). The first post office in Burkburnet opened in 1914; it was renamed after him in 1923. In 1925, Burnett married Anna Lillie Troup and moved from his original home to become owner/operator of a small general store which he operated until his death in 1957. Burkburnett was founded in 1879 by John Burkburnett and his wife, Anna. The town was named after Captain James Burnett of the Texas Rangers. The Burkburnetts ranched land around what is now Burkburnett and began to build a small log cabin in 1882. In 1885, they built aFort Worth post office and started to sell goods from their store. In 1889, they started a cotton gin and processing plant that became the largest cotton gin in Texas. They also started to grow corn, wheat, peas, potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes and other vegetables on their farm. In 1903 they built a schoolhouse and added an annex for a church in 1905. They continued to produce crops until 1930 when World War II caused them to close their farm facilities and sell all their assets including the cotton gin and processing plant.
