John Hargrave had just completed his seventeenth year of life when he received a package from his long-lost father at the train station. Inside the envelope were two tickets to visit Boston, Massachusetts.
Burkburnett is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,462 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls metropolitan area. Burkburnett was founded in 1887 by John Burk Burnett and his family. Burnett's father had been born in Scotland and immigrated to America to work on farmlands near Wichita Falls. In 1902, Burnett homesteaded land east of the town square and started an agricultural business that still operates out of the old Burnett home today. Burkburnett is located at (30.590111, -95.495653). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,462 people residing in the town: 699 households out of which 38% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71% were married couples living together, 5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 22% were female householders with no husband present. The average household size was 2 per family; there were 906 families (78% families). In terms of housing stock, 34%of all homes were owner-occupied and 62%were rental units.; OutOfTheIncome Renting Units accounted for 3%.
