Cedar Hill is located on FM 3603, a main route in central Caldwell County. The town was founded by James Hance and his wife Rachel in 1853 as a result of the oil well discoveries at Eagle Ford Field near Fort Worth. The first post office was established in Cedar Hill on November 5, 1855. In 1865, Cedar Hill became the county seat of Caldwell County after it was moved from Hardin to its present location. In 1898, Cedar Hill had $2 million worth of investments in Confederate assets confiscated during the Civil War and auctioned off to raise funds for Reconstruction efforts in South Carolina. The proceeds were used to help finance new cotton plantations in eastern Texas and Louisiana. During World War II, Cedar Hill served as an airfield for the USAAF Ninth Air Force based at nearby Waco Airport (now TX Wright-Patterson AFB). After World War II ended, the airfield closed and its use declined until it reopened as an agricultural research center under operation byTexas A&M University (TAMU) in 1984-1988.. In 1990 TAMU sold most of its holdings to Gulf Research Foundation which operates it today as a scientific research station with headquarters at Beaumont Enterprise Airport about 25 miles west of CedarHill proper on IH 10W Cedar Hill began slowly annexing adjacent rural areas beginning around 1870 when farmers who lived along FM 3603 started buying up tracts of land ceded by other landowners including Big Bend Rancho de las Acuñitas eastward into what is now Johnson County and parts of Hardin County; soon there were stretches within CedarHill itself where farmsteads lay contiguous with those just outside its borders> By 1890 most residents here lived within walking distance or less than one mile away from their farmssteads> This proximity to farmland may have been due more to cultural factors such as easy access to water resources than anything else but by 1960 all homes except two had electricity> Although some people left/were forced out during this time period due mainly to political violence or economic insecurity among other places like Wichita Falls or Amarillo - many others chose to stay put because they could still depended on their local natural resources* All these factors combined led eventually over time not only ontoidespread self-reliance but also an urge for community cohesion through shared interests > One result has been that despite living almost entirely apart for centuries few things have changed materially about our way Of life here whatsoever*
