Cedar Park, Texas is home to a rich marine history that goes back centuries. The city was founded in 1879 by merchants and developers who came to the area to develop oil wells. The first oil well in Cedar Park was drilled in 1907 and production began soon after. In 1916, Cedar Park became the first municipality in Texas to have a harbor built. The harbor was used as a landing place for ships coming into the port of Corpus Christi. It also served as a storage facility for goods being shipped from the local area. The city’s maritime history can be traced back even further, to when it was part of Sabine County. In 1849, Sabine County was created out of parts of Willacy and Briscoe Counties. At that time, there were no ports or other significant naval or commercial facilities located near Cedar Park. As such, it likely took some time for the town to become known for its maritime capabilities. By 1865, however, Cedar Park had become an important seaport on the Gulf of Mexico due to its location at the mouth of the Brazos River. During World War II, Cedar Park played an important role in helping support military activity within Texas and beyond. For example, during 1942-1945 (the war’s main conflict), Cedar Park saw extensive use as a basecamp for General George Patton’s Third Army during their march through Texas and Oklahoma City before reaching Baghdad on November 25th 1945 – just weeks after Japan’s surrender! Additionally, During 1944-1945 (the same year that Nazi Germany surrendered), both USS Fort Worth (BB-37) and USS San Antonio (APA-205) were based at anchor off shore at Iraan Point Marine National Monument while awaiting orders from Admiral James Fiske USN about how they should proceed with their voyage southwards following German capitulation! As one of only two cities in Texas with deep water waterfront access available for shipping operations during World War II,[1] Cedar Park quickly became known as “The Pearl Harbor of Shipping Ports”[2]. This reputation may have been due primarily to its deepwater berth located adjacent to Iraan Point Marine National Monument which allowed vessels large enough to navigate under normal tidal conditions access directly into/out of its locks without havingto navigate around obstacles like sandbars or shoals! In addition to its importance as a shipping center during World War II, Cedar Park also experienced significant growth following that war – experiencing an overall population increase rate above 10% between 1945 and 1960! This growth likely owed mucho To Its proximity to major metropolitan areas like Dallas/Fort Worth (which had rapidly expanded sinceWWII), Houston /Houston Heights /Baytown /Corpus Christi etc., which all needed cargo transported across various bridges or inland waterways en route thereto[3].
