Cedar Park is a town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,561 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Brownsville-Houston-IPO media market. Cedar Park is located on I-10 and U.S. Route 146 east of Brownsville and west of Houston. The first settlers in Cedar Park were John Waddell and his wife Margaret (née Caldwell). They moved from Illinois in 1847 and set up a farm about four miles north of present day Cedar Park on what is now FM 1428. The Waddells were among the earliest settlers to come to what would become Cedar Park when it was established as an unincorporated community on November 3, 1857 by J C Hickman, alias "Tim." Hickman named the community for his friend General James Fenton who had helped him purchase 640 acres (24 km²) east of Houston in 1836. John S Carpenter started building homes around 1910 near where he currently lives on FM 19603 south of town limits. Carpenter's home still stands today next to FM 19603 across from McDonald's restaurant which closed down in 2009 but was recently renovated into a small hotel called The Gateway Inn & Suites by Marriott that opened in late 2013 with new rooms and a attached garage used as office space for local businesses including Lighthouse Pharmacy which closed down in late 2013; before that it was known as Midtown Drug store which reopened as First Baptist Church after being boarded up for several years following its closure by church members associated with nearby Spring Branch Baptist Church due to financial difficulties brought about by Hurricane Ike damage two years earlier !!! Midtown Drug store also played host to the original live music performance venue called The Garage which operated from 1961 until it burned down during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 !!! In addition, there are several restaurants/cafés that have open air seating such as White Sands Cafe (which has been open since 1978), Fry'N'Fry Pizza (opened 1984), Applebee's Restaurant & Lounge (opened 1986), and Two Guys Bakery & Grill (owned and operated by brothers Darrell & Donnie Byrd since 1997). Additionally, there are several houses built specifically for hosting events or functions like Live Oak Golf Course Events Center - one being built just north of FM 19603 off US 290 opposite Walmart Supercenter - this facility became known locally simply as "The wood" later renamed Home Depot Event Center after Home Depot purchased the property adjacent to it across US 290 from Lowe's furniture chain expansion project - this event center hosted major college football games throughout its history including Baylor vs Rice back when they were both part of West Texas A&M University along with other sports events including rodeo Pecan Bowls annually held at Sam Rayburn Stadium concurrent with high school baseball playoffs !!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, there is also an amusement park built adjacent to White Sands Cafe which includes a waterpark featuring more than 20 different types of slides both standing and seated depending upon how deep you go!
