Cleburne is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,377 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The town was founded in 1876 and named for General James Fenton Cleburne. Cleburne began as a cattle ranch on the east side of the Trinity River. In 1906, homesteaders established a mill in central Cleburne and built homes around it. A post office was established in 1909 and another one in 1916. When Fort Worth assumed municipal jurisdiction over Tarrant County in 1911, local officials decided to name the new municipality after General James Fenton Cleburne instead of Fort Worth because he had played an important role in events leading up to that city's incorporation as a city. The community has since grown considerably with development of shopping malls, businesses, and residential areas near Interstate 20 and State Highway 288. The first school building was erected on Main Street in 1907; it now houses the First Baptist Church of Cleburne. A second school building was added to the scene on Elm Street east of Main Street by 1913; it now serves as Union High School. A third school building (later renamed Northside Elementary) was constructed on Elm Street south of Third Street by 1929; it still serves as that school's home today. In 1940, Mineral Wells Intermediate School opened its doors within walking distance of main street; this facility served students from both elementary schools until 1976 when Mineral Wells Senior High School moved into their own building across Main from Central Elementary which became known as Northside Middle School until 2013 when that structure too closed down due to lack of enrollment). In addition to main street there are several side streets which serve various purposes such as: Wheeler Avenue runs past Schell Road just north-of town while Walnut Drive divides between east-west roads running through town while Old US 290 runs parallel to I-20 almost directly outside town limits before turning north towards Clear Lake Regional Airport

Cleburne is a town in Bowie County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1881 by parents of J.D. Cleburne, who had arrived from Tennessee in 1859 and were pioneers in what would become Bowie County. The town site was chosen because it was isolated from other settlements and its natural resources made it an ideal place to start a new community. The first settler, John Kirby, built a log cabin on the banks of the Brazos River in 1881. Kirby was followed by his son James Dickson Kirby and their families. In 1885, J.D.'s father induced him to come to Cleburne with his wagon train and set up permanent residence there. He soon became one of the most important citizens of the community and played an important role in its development as a cotton plantation center. In 1911, J.D.'s widow Carbine married Texas Governor Averill Harriman near Cleburne Creek Bridge on State Highway 290 about 12 miles south of present-day Houston; they moved to Harriman's ranch near San Antonio later that year for some time before returning to Dallas in 1914). In 1919 he died at age 86 after a long career as an educator and public servant including service as secretary of education under Franklin D Roosevelt (1933–1945). His wife continued to live until her death at 91 years old in 1984.) Mrs Carbine is buried next to her husband at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery outside San Antonio (he also has a small plot adjacent thereto.). Cotton plantations were gradually replaced by other crops during the late 19th century but Jardine still operated until 1902 when he sold all his land north of Cleburne Creek Bridge to Ewing Marion Kauffman Sr., founder of Texaco which would become ExxonMobil Oil Company Limited.. After World War I local farmers grew corn and wheat while construction began on several dams across the Brazos River; these projects led directly to increased water use downstream leading finallyto high water levels which destroyed many homes and ruined much furniture inside them during floods causedby Hurricane Ike on Aug 31st 2008

In 1872, Cleburne became the county seat for De Witt County. The town developed into an important commercial center, with several banks and stores lining Main Street. In the early 20th century, Cleburne was hit hard by the Panic of 1907-1908, which caused many businesses to close their doors. However, Cleburne regained its reputation as a economic hub during World War II due to its large population of workers who produced munitions and other military equipment.
