COLLEYVILLE, Texas is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,453 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The name Colleyville comes from James Colley and his family who came to this area in 1836 from Kentucky. Colonel James Colley had purchased large tracts of land east of Fort Worth in 1845 and built a log cabin known as "Colley's Prairie." He and his wife Anna raised their five children here. In 1850, General Sam Houston bought part of Colleyville from Colonel James Colley for $3,000 cash. The new owners built a mill on the site which became one of the largest mills in Texas. In 1855-1856, John Fenton built a two-story frame house on North Main Street near present day Jefferson Davis Highway (I-10). He called it "The White House" because he had white paint applied to its exterior to make it look like an antebellum plantation home. The property became known as Fenton Place after him. In 1890s many farmers started moving into the area around Fort Worth due to good soil conditions and cheap prices for cattle feeder ground outside of town Limits were set back by prohibition laws that prohibited any kind of trade with Mexico so farming became an important industry much later than others such as oil or gas production
