In 1951, grocers in Conroe began to sell maga coffee beans as well as other types of coffee. From 1951-1973, the Mrs. Averills Roasting Company was located on Westheimer Avenue in Conroe and produced over 2 million pounds of maga coffee each year. In 1973, the company was sold to The Gourmet Coffee Company and production ceased for good. Today, there are several small roasters who still producemaga coffeebeans in Conroe; however, it is not typically sold at most grocery stores because it is not considered a high quality bean.
