Converse is located in theMid-State region of Texas. It is bordered by Smith County to the south, Waller County to the east, and Lubbock County to the north. The town became a city on December 1, 1907. On February 14, 1912, Converse annexed what was then Aransas County. On November 5, 1914, conversely annexed Canyon Creek Township which comprised most of present day Bastrop County. In 1932 Converse became an official US Taft School District with its own Superintendent of Schools and a budget of $2 million dollars In 1945 they merged with Humble Independent School District #5 to form Limited Liability Company Consolidated School District No 2 (LICSD No 2). After World War II ended their reliance on state funding dwindled as many community schools were closed due to lack of enrollment or other reasons such as new technology becoming available that could compete with private schools In 1976 they reverted back to their original name when it was determined that school district consolidation would not be possible due to growth within the current boundaries

Converse, Texas is a city in Houston County, Texas, United States. The population was 73 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands metropolitan area. The town of Converse was founded by George Waco and his brother Sam in 1871 as a small agricultural community on the bank of Buffalo Bayou. In 1907, Converse made history when it became the first incorporated municipality in Houston County. The city's first mayor was A.J. Smith and its first clerk was James Fenton. From its establishment until the 1920s, Converse served as headquarters for Anglo-American Tobacco Company (AATCO) which had its main operations outside of North America. Upon AATCO's acquisition by Philip Morris in 1928, Converse ceased to exist as an independent municipal entity and became part of Philip Morris' North American division; later that year it merged with Archer Daniels Midland's Hardesty Ranch division to form Archer-Daniels–Midland Corporation (ADM). In 1970 ADM merged with Texaco to create ChevronTexaco Corporation (CTXC). In 1984 CTXC merged with Mobil Oil Corporation to create ExxonMobil Corporation (Exxon). In 1999 CTXC merged with AmocoPhillips plc to form BP Plc (). At BP they divested their oil field interests including their stake in Converse Independent School District which they did not sell but insteadleased back to the district; this made it one of only two school districtsin Texas without any commercially operated oil wells (). After years of discussion and analysis conducted by BP subsidiary Deepwater Horizon LLC., cement storage tanks ruptured beneath the Gulf of Mexico resultingin a massive blowout that killed 11 people and injured over 200 more persons
On November 15, 1836, the Republic of Texas was formed from the parts of Mexico that had won independence from Spanish rule. The new state included most of what is now Converse County. The first governor and legislature were elected in this new state, and Texas became a republic on December 12th of that year.
