Copperas Cove is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Copperas Cove is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1884 by John Waddell and his wife Eliza. It was named after copper mines in Mexico that were discovered near Copperas Lake. Copperas Cove started as a summer resort for wealthy Texans. In 1955, the last copper mine closed in Hudspeth County and the town slowly began to decline. In 2006, Copperas Cove was awarded the "Town of Character" award from the Texas Historical Commission for its significant contributions to local culture over time. The commission noted that "the rich history and culture of [Copperas Cove] makes it an important community within Texas." Today, there are few businesses in Copperas Cove and many residents commute to jobs in Austin or Dallas. However, some residents continue to enjoy spending their summers hereabouts due to its scenery and warm weather. Some of the more notable features of Copperas Cove include: an open-air amphitheater called "The Pod", which hosts live music every year; a small fishing village known as "The Landing"; three tennis Courts built on top of an old quarry; and a Pirates Inn Guesthouse with circa 17th century woodwork inside which visitors can experience true pirate life through nightly Prohibition-era entertainments such as minstrel shows and karaoke nights!

Copperas Cove is a small town located in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. Copperas Cove is part of the Wichita Falls, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Copperas Cove were the Hays family who settled in 1851. The original post office was called "Anadarko" and served the community of Anadarko until 1886 when it was renamed "Copperas Cove". In 1902, a school was built and named after Mrs. A.M. Hagopian which lasted until 1915 when it burned down due to an electrical short circuit. The first store opened in 1903 and named "J & S Goodrich's". In 1907, a railroad station was built on the San Antonio-Wichita Falls Railway and served Copperas Cove until 1971 when it closed along with all other US Railroad lines due to economic factors. The first Post Office here (1886) continued serving as an office until 1915 when it burned down due to an electric short circuit while being operated by Mrs A M Hagopian from Coal Creek Mines!
The first permanent settler in the area was James Bowie, who arrived in 1836. The town of Copperas Cove was born from the opportunity to purchase land at a bargain price from the Mexican government. Bowie founded the town on a peninsula in Lake Buchanan, Texas near modern-day Austin. Copperas Cove prospered as an agricultural center during the years before American independence, and during that time it became one of the most important ports on the southern border of Texas. By 1847, when Mexican forces under Santa Anna occupied Austin, Copperas Cove had reverted back to Texan control and became known as "the new capital." After annexation by Texas in 1848, Copperas Cove continued to thrive as a port and commerce center until its destruction by a fire in 1861. Post-fire growth occurred primarily due to cotton plantations established along the Bayou San Jacinto River north of town. Despite these challenges, Copperas Cove persisted as an important cultural and economic center for much of the 19th century. In 1916 it was renamed for Edwin Drake III after his exploits in space exploration.
