Corpus Christi, Texas is a city in the Midwestern United States. The population was 713,821 as of October 1, 2018. It is the third-largest city in Texas and the most populous municipality in San Antonio County. The port of Corpus Christi is one of the largest on the Gulf Coast and sixth-largest on the Gulf of Mexico. The area that would become Corpus Christi was first settled by Native Americans and later became part of Spanish Texas. In 1836, Mexican President Santa Anna issued an order for all American citizens to abandon their homes west of Austin in order to preserve Hispanic culture in what would become California. A small group including John Bogle founded Baylor University in Galveston and started teaching college students from Texas about Mexican culture before they were evacuated to California. This event signaled the beginning of US involvement with Mexico during its time as a colony from Spain. After Commodore James Fayette Sloat's capture of Veracruz on April 15, 1846, Mexico ceded Veracruz to US control under Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo which also ended Mexican independence from Spain. In 1848, following Reconstruction America acquired new slaves through purchase or sale while property owned by African Americans remained subject to taxation by white owners until after World War II when education laws made it possible for black people to own land without discrimination (this law was nullified by court rulings). For almost two centuries there had been a large African American community living near present day downtown Corpus Christi; however this community largely died out due primarily to disease contracted during slavery and Jim Crow segregation which limited access to education and employment opportunities for African Americans throughout most ofousy America until after World War II when education laws made it possible for black people to own land without discrimination (this law was nullified by court rulings). As oil prices increased starting around 1970 jobs became available at various refineries along with construction work done at Sabine Pass Dam while Port Arthur closed due mainlyto lack of skilled labor once production shifted away from oil fields associated with Sabine Pass Dam.. In 1902, Admiral James Cook sailed around Australia in HMAS Anzac with a small force – the first time an Australian vessel had ever visited Europe! This event helped create international relations between Europe and Asia and set the groundwork for later military campaigns such as World War II. The modern navy is made up largely of large vessels (such as destroyers) which can be used for convoy duty or special operations tasks such as counterterrorism missions or support for amphibious assaults. Additionally, smaller vessels are frequently used for fisheries patrols or law enforcement work on isolated islands off the coast of Africa or Asia

The name "Corpus Christi" comes from Spanish meaning "market place." In 1861 during America's Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell Sherman ordered his troops to bombard Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor in South Carolina while Japan was fighting China for control of that port. On April 14th 1865 Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant destroyed Fort Sumter by bombardment using an exploding mortar known as an "incendiary mortar."
